DadsGlasses
Can I use an RCA to female 3.5 adapter to use headphones or a small computer speaker for my NES?
godslabrat
Yes, I've done it. The problem is, it only produces mono sound, and there is no volume adjustment.
Tanooki
Basically anything is fair game as long as you can take that mono jack and attach some form of adapter so it can be fed into your output speakers of choice. Back in the day I used a Y splitter that had RCA inputs on the other end and ran them to a stereo receiver which split the audio between the two speakers and sounded insanely better than thorough the TV. I still have that splitter too.

CGQuarterly
Just use powered speakers, like any pair of computer speakers. Use a Y connector to get the mono sound piped in to both channels.
+H454
+1 on the powered computer speaker. Also, most have a headphone jack built in to one speakers - thus providing amplification and volume control.
DadsGlasses
Thanks! I will be starting the project tomorrow. Long story short, I am planning to convert my Pole Position MAME Driver cabinet into an NES Upright cabinet. I need to convert from Composite to VGA and I also need to get sound. I think powered computer speakers will probably be the way to go. The Composite to VGA converter that I bought should arrive tomorrow.

Tanooki
Yeah do keep us up to date on this as it looks like an interesting idea. What's the cabinet look like now? Depending how it's setup for the speaker holes, marquee, and the rest there's choices to be had.
