I merely misunderstood the focus on cartridge functionality and wondered if cartridges were somehow imperative to the functionality of the device. Question answered, then. AtariGeezer Posted May 19, 2018 Share Posted May 19, 2018 I soldered in the the replacement LED's, and they light up as expected, 5v good, power on lights up, but i get no boot, the lights on the BOB board flicker on power up so I guess I have a short somewhere. Havent had much time to look into it, but I did check the orientation of the CPU and Antic and both are correct ( pin 1 facing the edge of the board) . DN too Here it is. For future reference this schematic is also available from the 1088XEL Accessories page. And yes it corrects the left and right stereo channel mix-up as well. Perhaps Cool Novelties can be persuaded to make them as well, and I can finally place video cable fabrication firmly in the past. Compatible or 100% identical ? I mean...does the cool novelties cable swap the L-R audio signals too ? Compatible and 100 per cent identical. Level42 Posted June 15, 2018 Share Posted June 15, 2018 (edited) Crap......I remember I had a schematic that created the required voltage for pin 16 from the sync signal ...I think with a zenerdiode and a cap to charge the cap to a voltage defined by the zener using the sync pulses.....I used it for my arcade machines where I installed a TV IIRC....but of course can't find it on my Mac now....argh... By the way, does the RGB control signal carry 5V ? the input is specced at 3V max by SCART definition....not sure if it will hurt any TVs ? Perhaps swapping schottky diodes for the 1N914 diodes might boost it up a bit more. Not sure if 8.5 volts would be enough, and also don't know if tapping this signal would produce enough current to serve both needs (depends upon the impedance of the the SCART input).Too bad I wasn't more aware of this issue during the 1088XEL development, since it would have been nice to provide the proper voltage for 4:3 mode switching for the SCART. That's why it can be done with a simple set-up like I mentioned...a cap being charged by the sync pulses I was quite impressed by the cleverness of this simple trick back then....wish I could find the schematic back....argh.... Yeah, trouble is that 1) the cable coolnovilties sells probably doesn't carry anything to pin 8 on the SCART connector 2) no idea if an added signal like that would screw up ST compatibility with that cable (if it IS ST compatible that is ) 3) some people might actually like the screwed 16:9 look.... The idea with the diode and cap (IIRC) can be mounted inside the SCART connector which is nice....no need for an extra wire (hack). 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
