power active atari adapters on colecovision with batteries or atari 7/8 pin

I have active adapters (need +5V and current) that let me use playstation 2 dualshock controllers on my Atari 2600/7800/A8 and with some daisy-chaining, I could theoretically use a wiimote for joystick mode games. I would like to use them on a colecovision which is missing the pin 7 power source and pin 8 can be up or down depending on whether you are using fire1/ joystick or fire2/keypad. So, I had the idea that maybe I could route pin 7 (which is not connected unless using the driving/trackball controller) and 8 from the controller cord to the adapter to my Atari 2600 or to three 1.5V AA batteries, like the expansion module 2 uses for power. I am thinking I would need a diode or resistor in line with the batteries, but the Atari 7/8 pins on the console should be plug and play. All the other pins will be used for controller operation on the colecovision. I don't think I should have pin 8 on the controller cord spliced to both pin 8 on the Atari 2600 and pin 8 on the colecovision as then they could both be +5V at the same time, so I would have the Colecovision keypad controller in port 2. Will the Colecovision and Atari pinouts be working on a common ground if they are plugged into the same surge protector or will there be floating voltage/ground issues? Will I kill both consoles with such a setup or shock myself from floating ground?

If you doubt you can use a wiimote on a 2600/7800/A8, see this thread with 5200:
