toptenmaterial
Recently I've been watching videos of old games being upscaled to 4K. DS games look gorgeous and Wii games can be run with new texture packs and all kinds of goodies. What kind of a machine can do this? I'm not looking to run the latest and greatest current gen stuff. Thanks.
KeeperofLindblum
Well it's really going to depend on how far up you're wanting to go... I'll have to check my PC Specs when I get home as I can't remember what I have off the top of my head. I have a GTX 950 and I'm able to run quite a bit. I will say that I ran into slowdowns when trying to do 1080p Wii games just on my PC Monitor. (Might just need to do some actual configuring rather than sticking with default though.) However, the same card was able to run GameCube games at 4k when pushed to my 4K TV. I think most older titles (PS1-era or less) are easy enough to run in 4K and really only require getting the resolution right plus a few minor settings. I mean I have an old Dell Optiplex with no dedicated video card, and I was able to run PS1 games up to 4K on my TV. Again, I'll need to check some of my settings and full specs when I'm home in a few days. For now, what consoles or generation of consoles are you looking to run? What really got me interested was a video I saw of Nintendo DS games running in 4K. They looked gorgeous. I made a thread about it. I should also mention that I do not own a 4K set so this is just a daydream right now.
Beer Monkey
Are there any vector emulators out there that can handle 4K displays? 2160p, that is, of course the sides would not use the full real estate. Vector emulation with HDR on OLED could be a real game-changer.
mr_me
Mame is a vector game emulator that can use any resolution your computer does. Higher resolutions might mean more lag from the computer.

toptenmaterial
I haven't read this thread in a while. From a little research that I've done it looks like most TVs these days do the heavy lifting rather than the system.
