Sega Genesis 112 in 1 Multicart

My Sega 112-1 cart that I purchased about a year ago will not play on my Retron 5. Works just fine on my Genesis but I want to use it on my Retron 5 so I can save games and play in high definition. I was thinking this must just be a problem with the Retron running Multi carts because of emulation but from reading on Amazon it appears others have had no trouble playing it on theirs. Do I need to possibly just update my software? I know there was a software update specifically for Genesis related issues with certain game compatibility and for compatibility with the powerbase converter.

The R5 can be made to understand any multicart, but it would have to have a proper CRC value and cooresponding mapper setup included into it so it fires up. The Supervision 115in1 works on there but nothing else really. I was friendly with the coder a few years back when he worked on it and I had asked if it was possible, he told me he needed that. I ended up stuffing the cart into the system to get a CRC value, then tracked down the mapper information online and it was added in quietly. Normally it won't work, or it may try a default NES mapper setup (switches between 0-4) and you'll end up getting just the menu but no games play off of it. That's for NES though.

The other systems, they just won't work, unless someone can find a CRC value for it, and somehow hack it in there since they're no longer updating it. More work than it is worth. Easier buying the Sega AT Games HD system and hacking it, or the NES/SNES from Nintendo and throwing ROMs into that instead.

Thanks for heads up. Just ordered the 112 cart for $17 shipped from China. No rush, seller has 99.7% positive feedback and Ebay has great buyer protection anyways. I have a small collection of Genesis games and like the convenience of that 112 cart. Though no save capability, should work just fine in the 1st generation Genesis and AT Games Genesis Flashback.

"The most of roms we use japan/US version to make this cartridge, but all games change the format to make it support NTSC and PAL consoles. Because new product, we can't make sure that every game work on your console perfect. We test them at original US NTSC console now, all works well, but if use EUR version PAL console, maybe few days not very well. We will keep doing research and development, make all games work at NTSC and PAL console well."

That would be an amazing cart to have at that price if you wanted to use a real cart yet avoid the dumb prices nor wanting to get into an everdrive situation. If you had one of those handheld Genesis systems that take carts this would be ideal, much like my Super Games 500in1 famicom cart I keept permanently in my FC Mobile 88. Very handy solution.

That setup is the most convoluted way ever to play roms.

Just put together a Raspberry Pi 3 and call it a day.

  • 1 month later...

As I said awhile ago the R5 (and RetroFreak) are emulators and they look for what is there at face value. If you get lucky and it even boots, you'll only boot the multicart menu because it won't address the additional memory or CRC check for the game you wish to load so it's just not going to happen. Any crap quality or good quality(?) clone for the Sega or original Sega 1-3+nomad style system will run a game like that just fine I would imagine without any issue.
