tkarner
Any differences between the two cartridge releases of Pac Man? CXL4022 was the original 1982 brown label. RX8022 was the later 1986/87 gray label. Did RX8022 perhaps include the intermissions? Or were the intermissions only included on the disk version? SoundGammon
Probably the same. Just a different label from a different Atari company! Atari, Inc. to Atari Corp.
Rybags
I've got the brown cart which is only 8K and without intermissions. Atarimania isn't a lot of help. 2 versions missing, no mention of the later cart. http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-pac-man_12548.html Cas version of the Datasoft release there but the description says intermission is missing. But it's 16K and I just put it on and the intermissions are included. One thing for certain - if you have an 8K version then it's without the extras. SS
The Atari A8 cartridge releases of "Pac-Man" were all the same - no animations between levels, no attract screens. The Datasoft disk release includes both animations and attract screens, however. Interestingly, there are also a number of prototype versions floating around dated "Atari 1982" that also include animations and attract screens, one of which appears to be identical to the Datasoft version. The 5200 version includes in game animations but no attract screen. The 5200 version is also a bit harder & faster than the A8 versions and has ghost behaviors/patterns that more closely mimic the arcade machine. The attached file includes all of these various versions of the game for you to compare and contrast. Pac-Man.zip
Scooter83
Space invaders had a cxl4008 rx8008 and super breakout had a cxl4006 and rx8006. Same for galaxian and defender got a cxl4025l4,25 and rx8024,25 re release They are the same game as far as I know just a repackaged label. What is strange is star raiders and centipede got a silver repackage but kept the cxl number. No real reasoning about how they did that
