Price of a 64k CoCo 2?

Hey folks - I've been becoming more and more curious about the CoCo since messing around with my current setup, but the current machine I have is rather limiting: a chiclet-keyboarded 16k CoCo 1. I'd like to upgrade to at least a 32k CoCo 2, but of course, a 64k model would be preferable. I've done some preliminary perusing on eBay, but the prices seem all over the place. What is a reasonable offer for one of these machines?

FWIW I got one for about $30 a year ago. But, it was a bare system in maybe C+ condition, and IIRC was untested. I wanted a 64K board to swap into the minty-looking shell of my 16K CoCo 2, and I figured it was worth the gamble (turned out, it was :) ).

As with anything, you can find pretty good deals if you're patient and diligent. Sometimes stuff flies under the radar. Generally, I'd guess anything less than $50-60 is a pretty good deal these days, especially if it comes with any goodies; I certainly wouldn't pay more than that for a loose system. But, I'm notoriously cheap, so take that with a box of Morton's. :P :-D

Aw man, don't ever wrap the cables around the computer like that.

I've seen so many where sitting like that for years and it causes what looks like cigarette burns, but aren't. I am told it is a chemical in the power cables that keeps the plastic flexible, but it causes it to disintegrate over time.

I got my brother's old 16K Coco2 and his 128K Coco3... How hard would it be to upgrade the Coco2's memory these days?

Adam

Easy pull the 8 16k chips and replace with 64k 4164s. The next step depends on which rev board is in it. See

If you buy a 512k upgrade for the CoCo3 (Check out the Triad from www.cloud9tech.com), you have to pull the old RAM chips out, and if you have a 2-chip CoCo2, the ones you pull out can upgrade it to 64k.
