128Kgames
I went to my local Walmart this morning to try and get Pac-Man. As I expected, they have some in back but won't sell them until their Black Friday madness starts Thanksgiving evening. I would order online but they're showing OoS online now. Oh well, as much as I hate to, I might go and try to get one of the few they have in store on Thanksgiving evening. Maybe, I've never done the Black Friday thing and if I show up to a crowd of craziness I'll most likely leave. I honestly do not understand Walmarts mentality when it comes to this product release; is this just how they do business? Having people wait for months on pre-orders, then flooding their stores with product before fulfilling customers pre-orders. By me, they have Galagas up the ying-yang now in stores. I don't get the deal with Pac-Man: you could order for a day (which I did) but not for in store pick up (at least not by me) only ship to home or ship to store. So they won't sell them in store (depends on which store) cause they want them for black Friday but I can pick mine up Tuesday from ship to store. I honestly think Walmart is some kind of inter-dimensional portal or convergence of multiple-dimensions resulting in one big bizarro world...
NE146
Yeah, when it comes to in-demand items Target has some pretty standardized rules when it comes to stock, purchase date, etc. and they tend to stick to them for the most part "e.g. we have them on the pallet but they won't be out on the floor until Wednesday".. Walmart on the other hand.. it totally depends on what location you're at and who you're talking to at the time and what mood they're in. Sometimes you get lucky and they have it in stock and are willing to tell you about it. Edited November 16, 2018 by NE146
Flojomojo
Or maybe the needs of an enormous retail chain align poorly with the needs of a person looking for a specific thing at a specific time. Everyone's shipping these for free. Was Galaga exclusive to Walmart or something?

Skeeter
if you can get free thursday afternoon. the sale starts then. that might be easier if you can work it out. later -1 Even though they're open all day, the sale starts at 6pm local time. The manager told me they would have them out at 4pm in their own display, separately from the other A1UP cabs they have. At that time I could start waiting. According to what Walmart.com is showing, they have 4 at my local store. One of the gals who works in electronics made the comment that "Pac-Man is the one I want so I figure they only have 3 left, at best. Honestly, I'm not sure how fast these will sell at my store, small town and all. As of now I'm thinking about going around 4pm just to see. I said from the start I'm not interested in any of the joystick-based Arcade1up cabs, But Walmart.com says the one 1.5 miles from me has Pacman in stock. Now I'm debating.. If you actually get them to sell you one now you're doing better than me, and I was willing to pay the full $299 price to bring it home today and skip the Black Friday madness. Living in a small town the choices are limited and in this case, if I want either Pac-Man or Galaga there is no other choice.
negative1
i remember reading somewhere, that walmart.com and the division running that is somewhat separate from the retail brick and mortar stores. so who knows what their policies are, or how they handle them. i know a lot of people are getting $50 gift cards for not having items in stock, and being late. also, who knows how reliable their shipping, and stock updates are. i've been to stores that show they have items in stock, and they never do. and that's why i never shop there for anything, unless its an exclusive. later -

4300
For something non Wal-Mart related... Started putting together a base for my Centipede. I never liked the idea of the cheesy black riser and the plan from the get go was to build something better. I'm going to graft it on to the cabinet and replace the front panel with one solid piece. Maybe add a coin door. Hopefully when I'm done, it'll look like a cabaret and not a midget cabinet sitting on a box. Tanooki
^^I like where this is heading, good job. Given the ease of the color scheme there being black and white, making a natural looking shimmed, smoothed, blended and filled rise to it shouldn't be an issue at all if you have some carpentry and paint skills. I went to another of the interdimensional holes known as walmart today a county over, and they had 2 of them on display and wow, the Centipede one is nice, but the lower 1/4 of the cpo was rubbed white kind of in a cone shaped rub away from the button/trackball space and that's just pathetic. Now i really have seen how bad they get without the plastic overlay apology piece they have going out. SF2 must have been fresher as it wasn't beat yet. Some dude was stuck there in a suit trying to peddle tv plans, got me to play him once at SF2CE and he lost using Ryu to my Guile which was nice. I haven't played someone on arcade SF2 in ages. The only real issue i see is that the side art is a vinyl overlay, so I'm not sure how well the Bondo and paint will blend. Once that's done, I'm thinking some bright green t-molding would look great. If you're even thinking about getting one of these, go ahead and call arcade1up and get on the waiting list for the overlay. They said it could be up to 6 weeks wait time. I would agree I think the green given that cabinet would pop. You're right the sides are on there with that kind of sticker so it could be an issue, perhaps ends up with a slight bump/seam if you're looking right at it to notice even if properly blended. But the problem is the alternative would be custom fuller sized Centipede art and paying for that which would get costly beyond what that basic thing is worth. I'm not considering it, not at $250 or $300. I have limited space as it is and cramped it worse back in January. I've got a Neo Geo and a pinball machine as it was, then got a free modern made 60in1 iCade cocktail table which cramped things. I don't have room for another, especially of one which such questionable issues around the important part of it (the controls.) I was wanting the original Capcom blend with Final Fight and SF2 on the same one but they nuked it.

As it is now, this has been a free project. Already had some 1/2" ply sitting around. I said the same thing about about not wanting one of these. But, the idea if playing Centipede and missile command with a real trackball sold me and i folded. I have a few arcade machines and a couple pins already. I have no idea where I'm putting this thing when it's done.
Atariboy
Have you thought about doing something like putting a stripe on there to hide the seam, rather than trying to blend it? Maybe get your bright green t-molding matched and just mask your base with a stripe around the top of it? I imagine you can get your base to match good enough to look factory built, but the seam might be hard to hide without camouflaging it. If that fails, I'll probably run some t-molding across the seam.

negative1
one thing i haven't seen anyone try to do is lay the monitor down at a much steeper angle to match the arcade, instead of straight up. that might mean putting in new brackets or what else i don't know. also, i want to angle the control panel, so it's not horizontal either. thats 2 of the main problems that i have with the cabinets. later -

JBerel
Boy, I just don't get all these contortions. If you want a machine with the desired monitor angles, controller angles, controls, height, electronics, etc. etc. etc. why on earth would you not build one yourself? If you can modify these cheesy things yourself, you have the required tools and skills to make a proper game cab.

I have a Defender cabinet and a Mad Planets cabaret that i built sitting in my basement right now, actually. I went this route because i could pick this thing up, assemble it and have a working game in an hour. It had the games that i wanted pre-installed, I didn't have to worry about how i was going to power it, sourcing parts, sourcing custom artwork etc. I can modify it as i see fit, when i see fit, using materials i already had leftover from previous projects. Building a cabinet from scratch is a long, drawn out process. This was cheap, easy and quick.

Almost every cab I got had it, but it comes right off with an air can, or you can just clean them. I've removed every plexi from each cab to clean the LCD properly, wipe down with eyeglass cloth, and do the same to the plexi before reinstalling, so those screws got cleaned along the way.
