Broken Atari Jr.

Is this an AV modded or anything. Also have you tried on other TVs or just the projection TV?

Not AV modded. The projector is the only thing I own with NTSC TV channels. My XEGS works fine on it.

its going to be hard to guess, but I will try

it apears the tia is trying to start, from the POV on the wall it looks like there are diagnoal bars which is a pattern that happens when there is no game data

so are you starting it up with or without a game

if your starting it up with a game is it a known working game

if no clean it and the cart slot really well with iso alcohol or better yet contact cleaner

if yes it could be a bad riot chip, dirty cart slot, broken solder connection or a bad system clock

The cart I'm using is my Harmony cart, and it works fine in my other 2600 Junior. I cleaned the contacts in the slot as best I could. I haven't fully exposed the board (I didn't take off the shield when I opened it up) to inspect the board... that's probably my next step.

Is it possible to swap out these chips? If so, where do they sell replacements?

I see Best Electronics sells complete mother boards... anyone else?

the jr's have the chips soldered to the board, so its not just a simple pop and swap, and I usually get chips from other systems in my stash or ebay

as far as best, probably on the chips I have no clue on the mobo, researchers are still trying to decipher that word vomit, not standard for even 1991 shit site, its easier to just email the dude and hope he doesn't tell you "no atari for you!"

Is the working Jr also NTSC and not AV modded? You mentioned testing with only the projector because you have nothing else with an NTSC tuner and you tested it with your XEGS which works fine but didn't mention the other working Jr you had.

The working Jr is AV modded.

I see where you are going but in the video when theres a moment of a frame still glowing on the wall I dont see a pattern I see a no cart random image, maybe its just me

I hope its just a problem with the rf receiver not being in sync with a NTSC frequency just for the record

I agree with everything Osgeld said in post number 7, I just like to always try at least 2 TVs as I've seen some systems do things on one TV that they don't on another. Even though I don't believe the TV is the issue sometimes it helps to try another TV anyway which may pickup something the other one didn't. For example I have an LCD TV that will not accept AV modded(simple AV mod) 2600s, while the CRT I had did just fine. Then that same CRT also accepts RF on 2600s just fine as well, but then put a different system in thru RF and no color. Put that system in my LCD through RF and bam, color.
