F'WEB Farms - Source code Part 1

The information has been "out there" for several years. I uploaded the source to the Yahoo groups at least three years ago. Until the F18A comes up with more than 16K of VDP, the most you will be able to use is the 40-column version with the reduced buffers. To fully enjoy the 80-column version with the large buffers, you need the 192K that a 9938/9958 system provides.

Well, now that the information is 'out there'... it might be modified for the now majority of users who use the F18A. Not only would that be different, it would certainly be awesome as well! :D

Well, the reason I had obtained the source from Bob, lo these many years ago, was to do something about that. My intention was to modify the code to use the 80-column text mode of the F18A or the V9938 with only 16 KiB VRAM—maybe even use SAMS memory. But, one look at the code was enough to conclude it would be a major undertaking to convert the 80-column version. It would probably be easier to convert the 40-column version to 80-column F18A/V9938. I still may attempt this, but do not hold your breath too long!

The lack of 192K of VDP memory on the F18 is a real lack luster reason to own one for me.

I just throws all previous devices and software for those devices out window like FW for 80 Colunm support.

Sorry but I said this the day the F18 was introduced.

Maybe we can "gang up" on Tursi and have him implement the 9938 in Classic99 ;) He said he had the code about 6 years ago when I asked him about doing it at the Chicago TI Faire.

Yea I wanted to make a 9938 or 9958 version of RXB using routines from XHI and YAPP source code.

256 color screens from a TI99/4A are awesome.

I have often thought about adding 9938 emulation to js99er.net, but as far as I know we don't have any Ti-99/4A software to test the various graphics modes, except for 80 columns text mode.

Hmm for the 9938 and 9958 we have Y.A.P.P. a 256 color paint program that is a 256 color version of TI Artist.

By the way 80 column is only TEXT so just say 256 colors as that is the 9938 and 9938 while the TI 9918 only had 16 colors.

Also for XB we had XHI that allowed with CALL LINKS up to 4 times more pixels and up to 4 sixteen color pallets at same time on screen.

Not to mention FW 80 column that allowed up to 64K of Text storage using the 9938.

Here's the Mandlebrot code that was given to me for testing the 9938 support. It (and the code that ran it) was provided to me by Roland Meier back when Classic99 was Ami99, as he used it for a Linux port.

At the time (98-99 timeframe), I couldn't support the Linux side nor the VDP side, so as we fell out of touch the code faded until eventually I dropped it, and stashed it away for later reference.

I haven't run it for a really long time, so I can't help much with doing so. ;)
