accousticguitar
Asteroids has "SOS" beeped out in one of the background noises.
DracIsBack
To be honest, I found it a let down. It looked cool. The graphics were terrific I thought, but i found it slow and repetitive after a while.

+sramirez2008
For those of you who bought Ninja Golf new back in the day, what were your impressions? You guys selected my two most favorite 7800 games. The 7800 version of Asteroids is excellent, especially when paired with a Starplex controller (below). Ninja golf is a great exclusive. You get to play golf while fending off Ninja's, gophers frogs and sharks. I know its quirky, but i love it! Thanks for the episode!
jefffulton
You are really good at 7800 Asteroids! It's still my favorite version next to Megaroids on the Atari ST.

Trebor
Have a custom one that was built by AA member Kosmic Stardust. Custom Starplex.jpg Gotta admit that's pretty sweet; love real Arcade concave buttons over the imitation ones on the Starplex (Though the Starplex itself is a very nice piece of original hardware).

+sramirez2008
That is a thing of beauty. Even the latch is classy! Kosmic did an excellent job on this. It plays and looks great. I love the color of the stain that he used and the ridges on the box, remind me of a 2600. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I have another one that I've had for many years, different box and controller label. I saw this one for a decent price, liked the box/label variation and figured that one can never have enough Starplex controllers. Wasn't aware that it was rare. I've seen them before, but do see many more of the other variant. Thanks for the heads up.
SlidellMan
I recall someone on Newgrounds making a Flash remake of Ninja Golf back in '03. Criminally underrated title, and it still bothers me that certain tight wads (read: Hardcore Gaming 101) continue to bitch about it. Seriously, both versions of Ninja Golf were not bad. (Trust me, there are worse games out there.)
DracIsBack
In the spirit of the thread, I played through the first three levels of Ninja Golf, and enjoyed it. Been a while since I've played.

SoundGammon
For those of you who bought Ninja Golf new back in the day, what were your impressions? Emulators never show the blue colored Asteroids, they come up as an ugly yellow-green!
Trebor
Emulators never show the blue colored Asteroids, they come up as an ugly yellow-green! If referring to the PAL version of Asteroids - (Expert level selection) - A7800 does not have that problem: It is also not an issue under MAME(MESS) as that palette was corrected years ago for greater accuracy. This can be fixable under emulators where the issue exists by utilizing a palette that simulates the colors more faithfully.

davyK
Does anyone know if PAL asteroids is speed adjusted? I've compared both versions an emulator and it seems to be. NTSC is a smoother but not necessarily faster. Edited October 5, 2018 by davyK
