toys rus liquidation - any videogames

i thought that with the liquidation sale going on, maybe some of the videogames would be cheap.

apparently even with the 20% off, they only just match other places regular prices.

maybe near the end of the clearance, they will be slightly cheaper.

Liquidators always jack up the price before applying the discounts. Most of the public gets excited seeing markdowns, they don't bother comparing prices.

By the time the stores get to real discounts, all the good stuff is sold.

I agree.

Within the last decade, Zellers, Sears (Canada), and Target (Canada) all went through this process. The things that most people want/need -- groceries, cleaning supplies, clothing -- never got deeply discounted until the selection was extremely limited. There were a few bargains, but finding them required visiting multiple stores and much searching of shelves.

I never did see any significant discount applied to video games (or DVDs), and the special display fixtures were to be returned directly to the distributor rather than being sold. I actually checked on this directly. :?

Prices may have been more reasonable for things like shelving and pallet-jacks, but I never really looked at that stuff.

There could always be older games at a discount, but probably not to far off from what you may find on amazon. The the former means your gas money, time, and dealing with jerks on the road. The latter means it is delivered to you.

(You know.. I wouldn't necessarily mind going to physical stores more often... its the other guy/gal that makes it unpleasant)

So I shouldn't get my hopes up of finding a Switch on the cheap.

Nope. Game hardware and any software that's even slightly popular are exempt from the sale. There's still a good chance they can sell that at full price, return it to the supplier, or wholesale it to another retailer. Besides, by now, anything of value has been vultured already.

I was there last week. The situation must be even worse by now.

The games have been at 40% at our TRU for a few weeks. I picked up a the only decent switch game they had left and a few wii u titles.

I got a handfull of Switch games at my local TRU for 40% off. A few games were exempt like Zelda and Skyrim. They also started to mark down their Legos which were intially thought to be sent back to the vendor( i have a friend working there so I hear whats going on) my local store is farther along the closing process compared to most though

The one nearest to me just sort of disappeared. It's not like I don't go there fairly often. Must have been a lightning fast sale. Guess I shoulda read the writing on the wall (like it being mostly dead for years) and stocked up on Wii U stuff.

Went to a liquidation sale for the second-closest TRU, but no games I could really use.

It's not really regional. They're doing it just in steps by a general metro and surrounding area.

Like where I live in the actual county there are 2 but there is a 3rd just across the river a few miles north in Indiana. The one closer to me in town here started selling off stuff weeks ago when word of this started, but the other didn't at all and ran like normal up until the recent news broke of them dumping everything last Thursday. They basically looked at which stores were like the most high traffic and then blew them out first and started moving ample stock from other near by locations to that one to clear the crap out. The better quality stuff stayed off sale there and at the other locations to squeeze what they could. They're still doing that which is why you see those pathetic 10-20% off consoles/games stuff in places still and the same slim deal on Lego too as those are like the last things they'll take a knife to.

Mine has all WiiU, PS4 and XB1 games and accessories 10% off. Switch stuff is excluded from the sale at this point whatever that means. Amiibo are 5% off, but they only had about 50 Pits and Ryus.

mine had a handful of yarn yoshis, one kirby, and the rest were animal crossing related. Last time I visited before Christmas, they had walls of Amiibos, best selection in town. Now all deserted mostly.
