2018 Season Review
The 2018 season was not as historic as the 2017 season, but it was still a good season! Let's break it down:
They were once flying high building an incredible legacy with four Action Network championships and two league championships. Now they have completely fallen off the grid and their legacy is now a memory. Their offense started to decline in the second half of last season, culminating in being shutout in both games of the 2017 championship series. This season, they were shutout six times and only scored eight runs all season, the lowest in the league. They also were once a good defensive team, but this season they are third in the league in runs allowed. Time will tell if they ever will return to being the top team in the Action Network again.
They struggled through the first half of the season with three shutouts in a row before going on a big four game win streak in mid-season. They had a shot at the Action Network title, but losing their last two games killed their chances. Their pitching and defense was one of the best in the league, but their offense couldn't compete.
Their path to the league championship has been as wild and crazy as they are. Just two years ago they had no hope, ending the 2016 season with only one win and giving up over twice as many runs as they scored. They started improving last season, ending with a 4-6 record and a near even run differential. This season was not much better in terms of their 6-4 record, but they had one of the best offenses and defenses in the league, which put them at the top of the mediocre Action Network.
For the first time in league history, a team other than the Beamriders were Action Network champions. The Mutants were roughed up in game 1 by the River Raiders, but their strong pitching and defense earned two shutouts in games 2 and 3 to take the league title.
They had a good start again, including a three game win streak, but finished the season being shut out three of their last four games. They scored a total of 13 runs in their two inter-network games, but scored only one run or less throughout most of the season. They actually had the second best defense in the league, but their offense couldn't stay consistent to overtake the Mutants in the standings.
They had a good start this year, but they lost their venom at the end of the season giving up 11 runs in two games while scoring none. They ended up with a 5-5 record, the same as last season.
The 2016 Battle Network Champions just didn't have it this year, being shutout in five straight games and ending tied for the most runs allowed in the league.
A huge improvement over last season both offensively and defensively. Much more of a consistent team and was only shutout once. They scored the most runs in the league at 22 while only giving up near half of that. Despite ending the season with a four game win streak, they fell just short of returning to the championship series, but they now have a good foundation to do so in the future.
The hot bats of last season's league champions really cooled off this year, only scoring half of the runs scored last year while their pitching and defense gave up almost double the runs of last year. Perhaps last season was a fluke and they have returned to their mediocre ways of 2016.
It's been a five year ascent for them to top the Battle Network. They were the other team to rebound this year, recovering from a disappointing 2016. After an inconsistent first half, they ended the season on a 4-1 run to edge the streaking Bombers out of the top spot. Both offense and defense were one of the best in the league. They had a hard fought league championship series against the Mutants, but failed to score in the final two games shooting down their championship hopes.
They had a decent year, finishing over .500 for the first time since 2014. They are still an inconsistent team, getting a four game win streak mid-season only to lose three out of their last four games. Pitching and defense were much improved over last year, however their number of runs scored dropped.
Thanks to all fans for their support!
