Porte048
Well one day shipping later its here! Right off the bat I notice the Intellivision it was sent with (a sub 1000 serial number) has been damaged in transit, of the joysticks got ripped off and took the disc with it. I still took it and tried to power it up minus the keyboard but no dice. No matter I have spares, so I get one of my other working INTV 3s out, fit it in the spot, connected the ribbon cable and to my shock here were the results! Youll notice on the last picture, the zoom in or the tape deck. I do get some spinning on the circled parts of that photo after executing the clean command. Since I dont have tapes I dont believe I can test the rewind feature. If anyone has any test ideas please let me know!

mthompson
Lol I’m confused, am I going to die? I figured you'd be sleeping with one eye open for the time being. You know, with the big purchase and the wife and all.
decle
Congratulations, despite the dust it looks to be in good condition. That said, I would bank on having to replace the belt(s) soon. Did the tape door open with the EJECT command, or did you have to use the emergency credit card method? Which command did you use to get the capstan (silver axle) and pinch roller (the back rubber wheel) to spin? Is the pinch roller always forward touching the capstan? It should move away from the capstan, toward the front of the case with the tape heads when the motors are not turning, this gives a gap so that a tape can be inserted. With the tape door open if you carefully reach into the tray where you would put the tape at the back you will find a small microswitch (movable bit of plastic) on the left side. The mechanism uses this to detect the tape. Gently press it backwards a few mm and it will click. Pressing it fools the KC and you can issue all commands and have them do things with the drive door open so you can see what is what. mr_me
The clean command moves the read/write head and pinch roller in place and spins the capstan. The clean command should also spin the right spindle as well, if it doesn't then the rubber belt might have disintegrated.

Clean command spins the two pieces I circled in the photo, Ill look into the tape deck more today. I dont figure theres anyway to test the rewind without a Mattel tape, correct? mr_me
If the right spindle doesn't spin, I wouldn't expect the left spindle (rewind) to work. Tape function is completely automated; there is no rewind command. What happens if you do Decle's trick or insert a completely blank tape and run the "tape" command. Will test either tonight or tomorrow after family leaves from Easter. Will also need to find a blank tape lol
mr_me
Should have said any audio tape. Shouldn't make a difference if it's blank or not. I expect the tape drive to stop once it can't find data but maybe the spindles should move for a moment.
