Remember that expansion port on JediMatt42's 32K sidecar?

You know the one ...  gallery_35324_1027_26045.jpg

Well guess what...  ArcadeShopper currently has  make that  6   5 of the new mega awesome TIPI units on sale

<< HERE >>!  Yep, the future is NOW!

The timing could not be more PERFECT!  With the release of TIPI and the new << RPi 3B+ >> having been released, you can be one of the first get in on the next evolution of the TI.

Oh, from what I hear there will be some "TIPI action" going on at Fest West too.

So if you are coming, you can now bring your now "truly portable" TI setup.

How does it work with the new RPi 3 B+?  Is they any difference over the older slightly slower non B+ unit?

My B+ arrived today too and according to the USPS, the TIPI will arrive tomorrow!

The tipi service is treating the PI 3+ as an unknown device, so it is slowed down to about 4k/sec.

I slow the regular PI 3 down to 6k/sec for stability. And I will be raising the PI 3+ up to the same 6k/sec.

At 6k/sec that is like 48000 bps... which is good enough, and seems to be reliable in Greg's more noisy environment.

The software running on the PI is 100% of the time waiting for the TI. So extra speed is of no benefit. I tested the PI 3+ because it is what is mostly widely available at this time.

There will likely be DSR ROM updates.  But it does a lot as is.  And we'll figure out distributing updates to DSR for a price.  If you aren't prepared to buy a replacement eprom and program it, or erase and program it, you might not want to be an early adopter.

Crusty TI sideports and speech synthesizers have been shown to cause lockups and general unhappiness.

I'm building all of these by hand. And I am still working on the PEB version. So If you want a PEB version, you will help everyone by being patient.

one thing I have is patience when it comes to the TI.   I don't mind having to purchase eproms and write new ones either.

it's all huge step for us and many of us love that JediMatt and many others have contributed to the ongoing hardware development to keep the TI running.

Oooooh, PEB card?

Whenever that's available, count me in.  :)  Very cool to see this thing moving out into the public.  I'm jealous of all those who will be getting the first run.  :)

Does this mean that JediMatt42's 32K sidecar is required for the TIPI or does it offer some additional functionality?

it's required as that is the card the TiPi will connect through.

Thanks for the clarification.  I just ordered both from ArcadeShopper.  in unrelated news... is anyone in the market for a PEB with RS232, 32K, FDC and one full height 5.25 floppy drive?

Makes sense since the TI is 35 years old.  I'll dedicate the older one for the TI as it's already in a matching stainless steel case anyway.

I will give it away to anyone on these forums who will put it to good use.  Just pay shipping or come pick it up.

PS - sorry about the total thread highjack....

My problem is the requirement for the 32K expansion system, just to get the "44 pin" connection required by the TI PI.  I have 32K cards and other devices with 32K coming out of my ears.  My minimum requirement is for 256K AMS even though I am only currently using 1MB SAMS (3).  Because it was the last one I ordered before reading the requirement carefully.  If I can't find someone to provide me with a cheap way to provide the power and connection required or better yet, 1MB SAMS version of this required sidecar, I will be putting this TI PI device back up for sale "as not useful".
