Driving Module Issue

Hoping someone can help. Tested my Driving module today for the Colecovision, and it will either only move to the right, (once the wheel is turned, it continues moving in that direction, or it will respond in the opposite direction that the wheel is turning. Is this a faulty optical sensor?

Could be the Optical Sensor or it could be bad battery contact with one another or the contact in the battery compartment. Try this...

 

Turn the Driving Module upside down, take cover off, check batteries are installed properly, put cover back on, with the unit still upside down start Turbo, lift unit up so that you can spin the wheel in either direction real fast with one finger. If the on-screen car moves left and right properly, then your unit is good and you'll have to use some cardboard, velcro tape, etc. to secure the batteries in place better.

 

If no go, open up unit and give it a good cleaning.

 

If still no go, then probably the Optical Sensor.

Thanks for the suggestions. tried the battery test, no go. opened up the unit, and cleaned a ton of brown goop off the board and solder points. (VERY sticky), though none of it was in the case itself, so not sure if it was someones cola or not. re-assembled, and still no-go.

 

next question-is it worth searching for a new sensor, or is it possible the board itself is toast due to whatever was covering it?

A few people have found it to be a capacitor. See this thread:
