+grips03
Are there any 7800 games that would benefit from having rapid fire?
CPUWIZ
Use a 555 and find out.
+grips03
I play only a few 7800 games. Trying to see if others could benefit from having rapid fire. Rapid fire can be used: Scramble Asteroids Commando Xevious Rapid fire does not help: Bently Bear Crystal Quest Dark Chambers Rapid fire doesn't do anything: Moon Cresta Space Invaders Failsafe Armor Attack II Centipede Food Fight Galaga Joust Dig Dug Already has rapid fire: Meteor Shower Ikari Warriors Still to try: Planet Smashers Plutos Sirius
+-^CrossBow^-
all of the shooters and I've had a lot of fun with commando with a rapid fire since you can still essentially shoot the same with or without the machine gun power up.
+grips03
Plan is to find the games that do benefit, then tune variable rapid fire to the rates that work best with those games. What are the other shooters?

+GoldenWheels
When I am feeling cheap I use turbos on Joust....I have a genesis controller with discrete turbo and normal buttons...turbo is like instant rise. Great for getting back to the top of the screen in a hurry between or in rounds. also great for (being very cheap) "hovering" at the top of the screen constantly, which can really help with the blue riders, you'll normally come out on top just riding the ceiling. Thing is you need a turbo button AND a normal button to make this workable (you'd not want to have to turn turbo on and off ever 3 seconds as you do still need a single "flap" button push frequently). Also, I've never done it, but why wouldn't turbo help for blowing guys up in Dig Dug? Edited April 7, 2018 by GoldenWheels
+grips03
On Dig Dug, no clue. Joust it does not seem to do anything. I'm using the 555 calculator here: http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/555-astable-calculator R2 is min 1K, max 11K 10K linear pot in series. Pot allows for ~10Hz to ~1Hz. Works great for: Scramble (primary weapon, not bombs) Asteroids Commando (primary weapon, not grenade) Xevious it works fine too, but not sure the game lends itself that well to rapid fire. Setup is NeoGeoX stick, buttons A/B are normal, buttons C/D are rapid fire versions of A/B.
