OT: Junk Food (Best junk to eat during a marathon gaming session)

Here's the deal... normally I only spend 10-15 minutes daily playing a video game in a single session. HOWEVER, this Flying Shark game has me pissed... I can't get to the third level (thankfully I'm not the only one). So, I've set aside up to three whole hours on Thursday for a "Marathon Session" to crack this nut. With that in mind I have a couple of questions...

#1) What kind of drinks do you guys use to keep your 'alertness level' up when playing for hours?

#2) What are your favorite snacks to have by the computer, ones that do NOT leave crumbs or residue.

(For instance Cheetos would never make the list).

im so weird about that stuff anymore- if i do have a drink at the computer, it needs to be one that i can close because i knock stuff over ;)

my poison are zero-calorie energy drinks but they don't really keep me awake. i'm fond of soft candies (gummies, jelly beans) so if i'm eating sweets like that it's water or unsweet tea all the way. i have a fondness for salty snacks too (popcorn, chips, things that are not greasy or leave stuff behind), so it's an energy drink usually with that if they're available.

I usually just drink water, not much of a soda guy since I cut our caffeine 20 years ago. Maybe a protein bar or on rare occasion, a custard or ice cream shake. I used to go for coke and pizza during all night programming efforts but that ended long ago. I usually don't eat or drink during any video game play as that tends to distract from being in 'the zone', and makes a mess of things. Though I have been known to inhale peanut M&Ms now and then. ;)

My gaming sessions are usually early morning when the household is still quiet, and a cup of quality coffee is all I need :) That's usually when I test games to post on the TI Gameshelf or compete on the latest game competition. That's in contrast to programming or hacking which is usually a late night affair and I tend to have a glass of scotch and peanuts then. This is becoming harder to do unfortunately and I have been known to go weeks without ever touching my TI at all...

Virtually all my TI time comes late at night. I work 1p-10p, so my 10p-2a time is generally my own.

This is when I eat dinner, and my dinner is usually crackers, cheese, and sausage. :)

If Im programming, its usually a massive flagon of filtered ice water and my vape... copious amounts of both. I go until my eyes burn, then crash.

If Im playing games, I usually eat some crackers and such and drink some cold soda pop until I get frustrated by not being able to beat Vorticons high score on HeroX, then go lay in bed and watch LGR or Lord Karnage videos on YouTube until I fall asleep.

#1) Coffee.

#2) None. No food will be found near any of my stuff. You want a snack, go to the kitchen. And wash your hands before you come back.

What? No messy Cheetos to get an orange tint on your joystick? No greasy French Fries to mess up the keyboard? No potato chips to drop salt all over the place? No Orange Crush to spill and gum up the works with a sticky mess?

I agree with you on #1! Gotta have my coffee, cuz mah scores SUCK without it!

When I did tech support back in the day, there were some people whose keyboards looked like they contained samples from every dish and beverage at an all-you-can-eat buffet. I was amazed at how most keyboards continued to function, and I certainly found many of them too disgusting to use myself.

During winter time some of these same people often used chapstick or lip balm, and as best I can tell would touch their lips and go back to typing. A mental list of who not to support in person became very, very important. Most of the keyboards at the time were model M 'tanks' built by IBM, so they could take a beating and continue working like the day they were made. Quite a testament to their design.

I got hooked on the Model M and still use one to this day.. sans crumbs, coffee, or chapstick. I may buy one of the Unicomp keyboards soon, what with PS2 inputs becoming rarer each day. They supposedly are the same, original buckling spring configuration. I just wish they would make an 84-key version. I still regret leaving mine behind when I moved. https://www.pckeyboard.com/

I have a Unicomp as my main keyboard and I think it comes very close to the IBM beasts and just as heavy. Everyone in the house can tell when I'm typing he he :)

Take two tortillas (I personally recommend the Mission brand 'sun dried tomato' flavor),

Coat one of them in graded colby-jack cheese,

Add a hand full of crushed Frito's chips,

Add second tortilla on top and press together,

Microwave until you can see the cheese begin to ooz,

Fold in half, then half again the other direction,

Unfold back flat, and cut along the folds to get 4 pieces,

Compliment with favorite drink (My preference being a fresh glass of Kombucha tea)

You cant skirt responsibility, Vorticon. I have nothing but patches of hair left, my fingernails are bloody nubs, and my eyes look like dried out raisins from staring at my screen for 6 straight days, dying over and over again while trying to jump a worm moving in the same direction as me....

Im a shell, my family hasnt seen me in a week, and I cant figure out how to stand up out of this chair and put down this Wico red ball....
