Can anyone elaborate on what appears to be a rage-quit?

CBMCommand is recommended for use with the sd2iec. Some kind of fallout there? While used to seeing this kind of thing in the Amiga realm, in the Commodore 8-bit community is a new thing for me.

I thank Cenbe (Glen Holmer) and White Flame on #c64friends for showing me how addicted I am to all of this to the detriment of my family.

I doubt people will take your wish for granted anyway. Your software will pop up online and unless you want to hire a lawyer to get rid of it, live with it. People will likely rehash your software with different titles, and if you insist they might remove your credits, but the basis of the software will be the same. In any case, you will lose.

..or just sensibly moderate your behavior.

And there you go. Cannot make a decision around the scene without someone attacking you.

As for taking down all my stuff; It's mine to take down. It's mine to withhold from society. It's mine to do with what I want to do with it. I don't want ANY temptation to come back. I don't want any unfinished projects hanging around my neck to take me away from my family.

I have been nothing but giving to this community. I've built all kinds of software for other people to use and didn't ask a penny for any of it. I've earned some respect and there are those who barely do anything that want to tear other people down. I'm done with it all. I've got a few things to sell and when they're gone I'm not looking back.

No one attacked you. You appeared seemingly out of nowhere, made demands on people, then claimed to be a victim when your aberrant behavior was called into question and checked.

I hate to see people leave a community, especially people who contribute. I happen to like your CBM-Command program once I got used to the key commands. But it also seems that many people in the various communities have thin skin, hair-trigger tempers, superiority complexes, are arrogant, jaded, or some combination thereof, and those who have fewer to none of those neurosis wind up gaining one or two. And whichever way the gate valve trips, this kind of thing happens.

Again, I hate to see people eject themselves, but to each his or her own. But one thing to remember about producing in an open community, the nature of the Internet notwithstanding: when you release a product as open, free, etc. you lose control of that product. Even if you had a phalanx of attorneys you are unlikely to be successful in regaining control. In short: you can up and leave an open community on a whim but you cannot take your ball with you as you have implicitly, maybe even explicitly, ceded ownership, and screaming that no one else can play with the ball when you leave is an exercise in futility and self destructiveness.

If you want to wreak havoc and revenge just abandon them. Let them wither on the vine as no more updates are released. Ultimately, though, you hurt the 99.5% of the community which has not trespassed against you, and the 0.5% which has likely will not care anyway and will just gloat over your rotten corpse.

I hope things cool down and you change your mind.

It's not an attack and sorry that you're seeing it that way.

Moderating time with the classic computing hobby is something nearly all of us need to keep an eye on. Some more than others. Some not at all. And some go the loony bin because of this hobby.

These are all rhetorical questions:

Why even make a goodbye announcement? If you truly wanted to be free and clear, simply walk away without any press release. You have no obligation to anyone, and there should be absolutely no guilt from abandoning projects. No longer updating projects isn't "wreaking havoc and revenge".

The fact you've made stipulations about your work after you leave (and you've posted again in this thread), shows you still have an emotional investment in the hobby and haven't left.

If you want to leave, don't reply to any of us. Just:

-Log Out.

-Don't Log Back in.

Freedom :)

I'm quite cool about it all. Last weekend is when I was fuming. Now, I feel better about the decision than I ever have.

Well, good luck to you. Time is a truly non-renewable resource. It seems like you want to spend yours more wisely.

You've got my respect ! Family is probably the best thing you could focus on. It sure beats retro forums and coding :)

Good luck and thank you for all the programs you produced over the years !

Vladimir.

plbyrd, I dont know you or your work, but I sure do hate to see someone walk away from the scene angry, particularly if they are a contributor. Sadly I am not a contributor, I do not possess the technical skills required - I just love all things Commodore and retro computing generally!

This is supposed to be fun. I guess if it stops being fun you have to walk away, at least for a while.

Then just take your toys, go home, and shut up. I for one hate a whiner.
