BTW, how big of a drive are you hoping to run, anyway?  A good-sized SSD might work for you, depending.  My entire DVD movie collection is 603GB and TV shows is 800GB.

I was thinking 3TB should do the trick, 2TB at the minimum.  Prices have really come down on drives lately.

Considering the pi uses the same power supply, I wouldn't drive a drive off of it myself..  It can use any drive that linux can address, so pretty much whatever you can buy. I'd personally get one (or more) of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LQQHL4E they have their own power supply..

Hi Greg, I went to check out your recommendation and hit a broken link.

I took several hundred photos of the lunar eclipse.  These are the better photos of the batch, mostly due to fighting with the camera.

Turtles and I had a lot of fun watching the progression of the eclipse until it hit totality. Then I had to send him off to bed. . .

I found and apparently fixed the problem with my audio driver.  It appears it was a combination/two-fold issue, first I had my Video DVR USB stick plugged in and it was interfering with the RealTek driver.  Once the device was removed and the PC restarted, the microphone was recognized as well.  The second issues for some reason was the Rainmeter application.  I have no clue why, but once disabled, the irritating popup stopped.

So, if you even have an issue like I did, check other third-party apps and hardware that has it's own audio device.

ROFL!!!  I like it!

The thing is, I hardly ever understand the lyrics is music these days anyway, so what difference does the language make if the tune is good.  With that in mind, I've found that I can find some really good music by expanding my horizons and looking abroad.  Why limit myself to the stuff forced on us by the music companies here.

Never let The Man choose what goes in your ear! Choosey listeners listen with their hearts not their heads.

That's been one of the 'most played' rpm's in my mental jukebox... Where I live, I can't make it back from the mailbox without someone selecting it.

If I had a nickel for every time... I'd be in Barbados now, instead of telling you about it!

That other thing you were listening to, I had to drink some Battery Acid to relax me afterwards. :skull:

Today I took my first foray into SMD work, and jumped head-first to boot. With a rework station and flux paste I removed the good memory chip from a failed SanDisk USB stick and placed it onto a working donor. The pins were small enough that I had to take a second go with the soldering iron to remove a near invisible solder bridge. Once done, a quick bath in an ultrasonic cleaner with a slightly basic cleaning solution, and one working, recoverable USB drive resulted.

I have more projects along these lines I want to work on and with some good advice from members here and watching videos of people doing SMD component-level repairs I now have the armament to get them done.

Let the fun begin!

Pulled the LED third brake light off an old Mazda6 last night to fix.  Eight cylindrical 33ohm canister resisters, all pretty much disintegrated, and 20 burned out LEDs.  The only good component on the board was a diode.  Took almost six hours, but it works now.

Anyway, while working on it the damned thing smelled like burning dead fish.  Anyone ever come across something like this?

How fast do you estimate this lead foot was going when he passed me?

Not impressed ... a common view on our German Autobahn. :)

When I'm driving on the Autobahn, I try to stay at about 140 km/h (87.5 mph), a speed that feels comfortable to me. I sometimes manage to reach 170 km/h (106 mph), but not too far, it's much too stressful, and you may quickly run into traffic ahead.

Still, with 140 km/h, you see people flying past you with a 220 km/h (estimated, 137 mph). In an interview, I think it was Tom Hanks, he said that regardless how fast you go on the Autobahn, there is at least one who goes much faster that you.

I am strongly favoring a general speed limit on the Autobahn, maybe 130 km/h (81 mph), in particular because of the extremely dangerous speed differences. But this is a highly controversial topic, and just by saying this, I might lose quite a lot of friends here.. :)
