Yes, when there is a failure in root it's stuck, but other places you can normally back out of it. Good thing I have two. I previously bricked one, looks like china lost my order to fix it, I must order again.

If during the search you turn off and on the computer, overhang, see photo

Next, turn the computer off and on, cartridge is for programming (unbricker)

If during the search you press Reset, how to return to the device menu?
With QMEGa it's easy .... look video:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t5nSHm0HNZTBirMzE4oGRqqfmSb3tmJw/view?usp=sharing

Only in the root directory:

Filling the search results, hanging, see the second photo

It helps off / on atari

Sio2SD configurator 3.5
Loading files has an individual IRQ interrupt. It does not work with AVGcart. UPDATE: works, it my problem, sorry :)
Sure to verify the configuration

The SLOW version works, see atachment

i'm still unable to replicate the freezing when searching through empty directory, i'd probably need the contents of sd card where it's happening or instructions how to create such scenario starting with empty card

reset while search is in progress is problematic, i'll try to find a workaround for that

pajero_pn, how many files and directories do you have on your sd card?

When I get stuck, where it doesn't show the text and can't get out.... I can enter a MIO config holding select and then 0 reset and it can go back to the carts file menu.... is that what you're trying to show us with q-meg? Using another device to make it get moving again? of course powering down and back up works too .

I am a little confused as to what you are getting at with sio2sd... are you trying to use AVG to load the sio2sd configuration program for use with your sio2sd?

Could it be the SIO routines are then getting in the way of each other?

Try using side2avg and load the sio2sd program and see if that works...

I finally got around to inserting the cart into my 130 XE with a Rapidus, Ultimate and a video modification. I could not get the menu on the cart to come up. After a series of reboots, my 130 wont boot. It goes to to either a black or brown screen. However, the cart boots fine in my 800XL with an Ultimate.

I think the cart may have killed my 130 XE. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I have used the AVG cart with MIO, Black Box, 800XL, Rambo XL, 130XE, 192XE, 320XE, and an ultimate 1 meg.... I've put it through it's paces, make sure it was updated to version 14 before sticking it anything else....

It won't kill your computer... unless it already has/have/had an issue... or are maxed for power... maybe a loaded down or runaway situation...

I'd make sure all your added devices are good or don't have corrupted configs firm or otherwise... I don't think it's time to blame the cart if it works in other machines...

for repair, might be a good idea to identify country your in asking in a new thread that you create, call it who can fix my Atari in (country/continent)

Using 130XE with mio,

avg ver 14

I inserted s2loader.car

I chose sio2sd.xex that is on sd card currently inserted in avg cart

it loaded no problem

chose device id 0

selected the HIAS MyPicoDos 4.05 full atr in slots 1-3

hit reset

sio2sd loaded them just fine...

at divisor 6

selected hias high speed auto in menu

abracadabra! using high speed sio... worked without a hitch

changed to divisor 3

worked without a hitch again.....

changed to divisor 2

worked fine

bumped it back down so as to keep things working fine with sparta X etc. though

no problems doing it that way... will try the other way at later time

reset while search is in progress is problematic, i'll try to find a workaround for that

every long procedure must check the left button of cartridge = mechanical stop

it can also change the PBI byte, from controlling cartridge = software stop

pajero_pn, how many files and directories do you have on your sd card?

many: 28 639 files, 6 436 folders

4GB, SDHC, FAT32, no error (bad clusters)

example: download AtariOnline.pl database:

utils: http://atarionline.pl/archiwa/archiwumuzytkow-atarionlinepl-2017-10-12.7z

games: http://atarionline.pl/archiwa/archiwumgier-atarionlinepl-2017-10-11.7z

example:

1GB, SD, FAT16, full format

create dirs:

ATARI/TEST

in root dir, search: "side"

nothing not found, two backspace keys = OK

but

copy AtariOnline database to card SD to directory ATARI

into 970MB will fit, see photo

in root dir, search: "side"

and break, cartridge not reading at directory steps (is empty) :(

maybe this is catalog, look: DemoScena\cp\Forever 12 2011\GFX\Ripek_Lupine Archer\

i'm sorry to hear that, it's the first time something like this happened

can you try removing rapidus from your 130xe to see whether it's the atari or rapidus?

what power supply are you using?

Did you plug it in with the label side up or label side down?

it took me around 2 months to finally plug it the wrong way (with help of shell that had cutouts on the wrong side to fool me)

suprisingly everything survived but don't try this at home

every long procedure must check the left button of cartridge = mechanical stop

it can also change the PBI byte, from controlling cartridge = software stop

you can stop the search by hitting ESC

i found that there's an issue with selector not coming back after reset that was hidden by another bug (changing a byte in checksummed memory that probably forced coldstart on reset and that made it start)

i'm not yet sure what's going on there, i'll be looking into it

many: 28 639 files, 6 436 folders

4GB, SDHC, FAT32, no error (bad clusters)

ok, that might explain issues, i have only 10k and way less folders ;-)

i'll retest with a more packed card

what power supply are you using?

Update: I tried for about an hours and the 130 seemed dead. I unplugged the power, tried different power supplies. Nothing worked. I set the 130 aside for about an hour and tired it again and it booted just fine. Strange. Everything worked (no AVG cart installed). The 130 worked perfectly. I tried various carts ect. No issues.

So I thought I’d try an experiment. What could go wrong?

I plugged the AVG Cart back (label up) into the 130 and the same thing happened. Brown screen etc even after removing the cart and cold booting. I waited for 5 min and the 130 booted again. I tired switching the CPU mode on the Rapidus with different combinations of the Ultimate. Nothing worked.

The cart works great on my 800XL with an Ultimate installed.

Good news, my Atari 130 lives and the Cart is awesome!

Bad news, the AVG Cart seems to be incompatible with the Rapidus and/or Ultimate combination.

Regards

i'm glad your 130xe is still alive, unfortunately i have currently no plausible explanation for that behavior and i don't feel comfortable having you do any more tests given the symptoms

anyone else has any idea? i've checked photos of rapidus and u1mb and didn't see any polyfuse that'd explain that "cooldown" period

b014

some small fixes, mostly search related

btw, i've played with those atarionline archives for a bit, having a folder for every game/util/demo makes avgcart's search quite unusable, there's too much overhead with such structure so i suggest less folders with more files in them

i might try adding some search index file support in the future but i'm not sure whether it's worth the effort and extra complexity it adds

Anyone else has any idea? I've checked photos of Rapidus and U1MB and didn't see any polyfuse that'd explain that "cooldown" period.

My initial Rapidus testing (of one of the first production units some two years ago) turned into quite a saga, and the device was at the time characterised by differing behaviours depending on power-on time and temperature. Many stability issues have been addressed in the intervening time (and this remains an ongoing process, it seems), but I noticed this post in the U1MB firmware thread the other day which suggests the Rapidus core needs to be completely deactivated to allow some cartridges to function.

Hello, i updated my u1mb to new version and all looks very nice, but i have rapidus and i don't see option rapidus on/off.. where is it. It's important option, because give possibility to use cartriges with rapidus.. no conflict.. regards

The answer was to install the U1MB Rapidus plugin (for the new U1MB firmware), which allows deactivation of the Rapidus core in software. I'm not sure if that solution has been tried in this instance yet, but it's more convenient than constantly soldering and desoldering the Rapidus GND wire or having to wait five minutes for the machine to work again.

Hmmm, how about some visual update of the firmware, e.g. one that shows "AVG-Cart" at the top of the screen and a few keyboard functions at one or two of the bottom screen lines ?!? This could be similar to SIDE/SIDE-2, U1MB, etc. (Okay, I have these texts and icons as soon as I load the SIDE XEX-loader and PDM-player, but it would be nice if the AVG cart would have them also...)

@FJC, when using the side2sdx cartridge image provided for the avg, if you choose cold /n etc... the avg cart is not switched off, it just restarts SDX... method to suspend or shut off cartridge might be different? which begs the question will inidos also turn it back on.... would this be the rom needing tailoring or the emulation within AVG?

Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel will be as long lived as the suns that shines on us all. Here's to a successful tunnel emergence!
