scotty
Ok, way back when, I owned a 520ST, 520STfm and a Mega 2. Sadly sold them all off. Want to get one again, but was wondering if there is an upgrade that holds multiple TOS images and lets you switch between them, like the Ultimate 1MB does in the Atari 8-bit world. I already have a floppy emulator from Lotharek, but just wanted to be able to switch TOS images for the best compatibility with programs. Emulation of the ST is pretty darn good, but still like (and miss) the real hardware. Thanks in advance.
scotty
I should mention, a Tos IMAGE is prefered over an actual ROM chp.
ParanoidLittleMan
Now there are diverse kits available for that. You may see basic concept of TOS switching here: http://atari.8bitchip.info/flashest.php There is more, but essence is to just change highest address lines of EPROMs with 1-2 switch, what will select actually wanted TOS version. Solutions with multiple EPROMs, so 1 couple for each TOS version are obsolete, and even more expensive considering prices of EPROMs. STE is easier case - you can direct insert new chips, while in case of ST, where are 28 pin sockets, some raiser (board) is needed. I prepare some modded TOS versions, intended for mass storage users, with Virtual Floppy for instance, what will make usage easier, more reliable etc. http://atari.8bitchip.info/tos105.html With 4 TOS versions switchable, you can have couple original versions + some modded versions. All fits in 2 (Flash)EPROMs . Switch self is simple mechanic switch with 4 positions - or 2x 2 pos switches.
