VIC-1905 PACMAN Cartridge for Sale for VIC-20

I'm selling a VIC-1905 Pac Man cartridge on eBay. It came from Japan where Commodore had the rights to sell the home version of Pac Man whereas Atari had the rights for the rest of the world. These are very uncommon as the VIC did not sell well in Japan.

That is a steep price but it has a bid. It is extremely rare indeed. For Commodore to actually label it Pac-Man...wow. I would venture to guess it is the same game as "Jelly Monsters", which was also banned from sale as it was obviously Pac-Man.

This was only released this way in Japan. Commodore basically "took" the name Pac-Man as well as cloned the game (its a good clone too) without any permission. When they were forced to stop selling it they figured they could get away with simply changing the name of the cart to "Jelly Monsters" and sold it in Europe for a time. This game never came here to the US so unless you lived there or imported it you don't have it.

 

What we got was the Atarisoft version of Pac-Man which was the officially licensed game. It was also not as good as the Commodore version! This was like the NES Tetris (Tengen vs Nintendo) thing of that time.
