Arcade Games at a Restaurant

I was in Cleveland this weekend for a convention (pycon) and we walked to a nearby restaurant called Corner Alley to eat. Turns out they have a bunch of arcade games on free play scattered around and I ended up playing Turtles in Time, Gauntlet Legends, and Mortal Kombat 4 for over an hour. I was pretty surprised to see that they had around a dozen real arcade games around to play a this point in time. I hope to see this as more of a trend.

I'd love to see that be a trend, but I'm not holding my breath for it happening in my area. Every once in a long while I see a "classic" machine, but I think every single one I've seen in the last 8-10 years has been a "Class of '81" NAMCO multi-game. Still kinda cool I guess, but I can only take so much Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man.

Then next time you see one of those, play Pac-Man via the Easter egg. :)

That's Awesome and on Free Play no less!!

I still think back to the 80's when many a restaurant or store had an arcade game or 2 somewhere...I can remember playing Space Firebird at Village Inn, Do Run Run! at an ice cream shop, Tutankham at the Burger Inn...Not to mention Stratovox at Safeway, And whole arcades at KMart, Grand Central, 2 movie theaters, and many pizza places...

Good Times! :) :) :) :) :)

Given the ever collapsing retail industry it would be cool to see that used as a draw. They already stick a bajillion giant TVs everywhere. Something to encourage going out instead of the often frustrating experience to pay more.

But like everyone else, not holding my breath.
