Ive been thinking about the issues weve been having with using PC or PS2 racing wheels with pole position on the 5200 and Ive realized what would likely solve all the issues would be a proper racing wheel hack of pole position that uses the analog up and down of the joystick for gas and break and fire 1 and 2 buttons for high and low gear. That way we could have analog gas and brake that would work with the old pc wheels that use up and down for gas and brake with bohoki adapter and may solve the analog-digital issues Ive seen with the ps2 wheel in negcon mode. I wonder how difficult it would be for someone to make such a hack of the pole position rom?

These are the two ROMS I have. They are just the original controller setup roms, but are a starting point if someone wants to do the hack. B is somehow different from A. I think A is the original 5200 version. Maybe B is some kind of 8-bit conversion as the horizontal alignment at least is different. The first one came with the 32K ROMS folder on the atarimax sd multicart and the second was in a 5200 merge ROM pack from emuparadise.

Edit: here is an explanation of version B, which should be the rom to hack, as A does not work correctly on a ROM cart, but I will check both versions again to see if there are any advantages to A:

I should probably have clarified these do not do what I want, they are just the original controller setup roms, but are a starting point if someone wants to do the hack (I don't know how) or I ever learn to. I think it would be a cool hack for many people. I've been wanting to learn some programming, so this might be an interesting start, but it may be a long long time before I get there, if someone else wants to do the hacking.

Also, a ways down in that thread is what I believe is a 8 or 10 track version of 5200 pole position - original cart and ROM glitch fixed versions. So, that may be a good one to do the hack on, as well.
