North American BOX Supplier Located

Recommended Posts

I Just wanted to give the Community /Publishers/Programmers a heads up that I have found a local supplier(Toronto ,Canada) that will and can produce boxes complete with integrated Cartridge retention as pictured below. (still working on some details and checks ext. so it may be a little while yet) They will be sold in Canadian dollars so US and Euro publishers will automatically get a 30 to 50 % cost saving with exchange rate and Canadian publishers will have no exchange differences..

Details so far

Heavy Stock Used (gave a sample of Marks O for comparison )

Digital Printed

Laminated Gloss Finish

Full Colour

Scored Line /Fold Line for folds

Also will need to test if the template supplied to me (Thank You SJ) is good and works with the details provided.

Their is a minimum for the first initial run (because of die casting) but it can be a mix of any graphic after that a run can be any amount.(still verifying but looks good for low to very low amount runs)

Im still negotiating pricing with vendor as such.. Just putting this out there to see if there is enough interest..

This is what I have been told and hopefully everything works out.. Anyone interested please give me a PM..

Cheers

Thats a nice looking box you have there! Canadian dollars gets a from me.

Thanks ,but I have nothing to do with the Art Work or that picture of the Template.. (

But it will be nice to have boxes made with the integrated Cartridge retention... That's for sure..

Canadian dollars is a win for everyone if this works out.

If gatefold boxes are made, I will buy them. I prefer the gatefold boxes as I can store the cart in the box without much wear on the box when taking the cart out. Plus I like the look and feel of them more than the standard boxes. Second choice would be standard boxes with cart holder already in them as pictured. Third choice is the standard boxes as the homebrew boxes being created are awesome artwork and quality, just would prefer the gatefold boxes.

Just to Clarify one detail , the low / very low runs will be after the first initial run of a minimum is produced.

(approx. 300 boxes what ever mix of Graphics). Im still negotiating this minimum first run.. But as of right now that's what the vendor came back with..

Gatefold boxes are awesome, but the amount of material they require is quite a bit more than the top and bottom flap boxes. That's one reason why they're more expensive. Take one completely apart and lay it flat to get a template. It takes a large, custom-sized piece of stock.

Also, the cardboard's weight should ideally be more than that of a simpler box, also adding to the cost. And assembly is more involved.

Don't get me wrong, I love the gatefold boxes, but I understand why almost no one puts their games in them.

Sorry, but I do not have a template. Check with Collectorvision as they produced a nice gatefold box with the initial release of B.C.'s Quest for Tires and the Sydney Hunter games.

All valid reason as mentioned , good idea for getting a template..

update:

Since the vendor has asked me if I can acquire and supply him with an accurate die line or correct box so they can recreate the die line (with cartridge retention).

and no one has the exact die line , I will be taking an existing original BITD box apart as suggested by (mthompson- great idea , thx)and sending them that one to make die.

A sample will then be printed for those that are interested.. (will be sold Canadian dollars and very fair pricing)

I also will be taking apart an original gatefold box apart and sending them that to find out price for a gatefold box.. I already let them know about the gatefold box..

What game boxes should I break down for them..

Eh, I wouldn't worry about making the smaller flap boxes. There are plenty of people already offering several different variations of those already. The gatefolds on the other hand will net you a killing! I know I would be all over any offering for those, even reproductions of boxes that were not originally in gatefold form.

I think that's where you could really make a mark, assuming your supplier can produce those.

Lets see if and what price point they can come up with for the gatefold boxes. Will try to give them the sample of the box/boxes in the next few weeks..( I have been away for my sons competitions the last month and half and have a few more weekend away the next few months..)

With the smaller flap ones yes there are a couple of suppliers right now but none make them with the retention holder for the cartridges as a whole.. and I know I will beat their prices and sell in Cnd. dollars.. Its the quality and sample Im waiting for to make sure it matches or exceeds the other ones.

Thanks for your comment and support.. :)

Cheers
