If this is true, it begs the question, how much is Nintendo negotiating for new third-party titles and re-negotiating for existing ones? Will the next release of the Classic have the same assortment of games?

The western release remains the same, though?

Its a gold edition, not a release of the first one.

Gold edition? I think that is a missed opportunity to release the badly yellowed version of the Famicom Mini, just like 80% of all genuine Famicom consoles look.

I strongly doubt Nintendo would release a special edition NES Mini with games based on manga. It would only be received as a pornography console... (not entirely sarcasm here)

Most of these early, manga-based Famicom games aren't, y'know, very good.

The only reason I consider this possible at all is that it's Japan, and conservative Nintendo is a little more free-spirited in their home country.

Are people really clamoring for old manga games? I never liked manga so I don't really know if the nostalgia bug is there.

I'd get a FC mini, but those tiny controllers are a dealbreaker.

Shonen Jump magazine is a pretty big thing in Japan. Has been so for many years.

Type "gold famicom mini" into google. Several articles say the same thing. So it must be so. Here is a better pic.

Hey 0078265317, here's a fun game you can play! Go to aliexpress.com, type in "famicom" and report back on what you see!

Actually, there are literally 1,000 phrases I could think of where "type this into google and report what you see" would end in disaster.

Just for kicks, are there enough Disney games for the NES to make a special edition of the NES Mini, given that Nintendo could obtain the licenses to reissue those games? Perhaps Disney + something more for the western market, while Japan gets a bunch of manga games.

Disney also owns Marvel and Star Wars. It would be fun to have everything 8-bit and 16-bit in a single purchase, wouldn't it? I'm quite fond of the Super Star Wars games on SNES.

There are the "Disney Afternoon" games, so that's six titles... add Mickey Mousecapade and Magical Kingdom... that's eight.

Add in the movie games... Jungle Book, Little Mermaid, Roger Rabbit, Beauty and the Beast... you're starting to get a respectable number.

You wouldn't get a full 30, but it'd be a decent showing.

Honestly, I do like the idea of a Classic where you can load your own games without hacking. There is something fun about deciding what your own personal "Must have" list would be.

Since the NES Mini and SNES Mini have the same hardware under the hood, assuming they can make one system capable of running both sorts of emulation, I read on Wikipedia combined there are about 30 Disney related games there, even if some of it would be more shovel ware than essentials.

I have a hard time imagining Nintendo, Capcom and Disney coming to an actual agreement to release such a plug-&-play unit. If Disney only gets peanuts of revenue from sales, they won't bother to sign the deal. Same for Nintendo and Capcom. So if this plug-&-play became reality, it would probably carry a high price tag.

There are others by license too.  Virgin had some stuff out like the movie games for Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Jungle Book, Aladdin but outside of the US as was Beauty and the Beast.  As pointed out there are the companies they sucked up too since which has a few marvel and star wars games behind it, Indiana Jones too.

They should release a Pokemon mini system that looks like the Pikachu 64, but smaller, and contains all the Pokemon games from N64 and GameBoy and GBA and whatever.  I don't play Pokemon, but you know that would sell like crazy.

I'd like that, but I don't see it happening because all those dumb games center evenly on story but also trading (2P) which without some Wifi setup isn't going to work as they're not going to install an old school link cable with the wishful thinking people would link a GB/GBC to it.

Yeah, Nintendo would be better off doing that kind of thing with Zelda or Mario, instead of Pokémon.

People already are awaiting a N64 Mini some time in the future. In case Nintendo really would mix and match titles from multiple formats, I'm not sure they would include N64 games before a dedicated N64 console has been released. The same probably can be said about Gameboy, GBA etc games, unless they have really strong reasons to make a such themed mini console.

It's different for everyone, to be sure. My daughter would go ape over a Pokémon console. Meanwhile all the older Mario games that can be emulated with cheap hardware like their current Mini consoles has already been emulated. The mainline Mario games are already all on those two consoles, so releasing a dedicated Mario console would severely overlap. Releasing a dedicated Pokémon console wouldn't, so much.
