Jaguar + OSSC + SCART = Really Nice Picture

I picked up this combo recently and am blown away by the picture. Doom looks bad to me (regardless of which upscaler) but hoping to find a setting that will enhance the picture to crt quality or close, anyway.

For future ref, here's where I got my SCART

Version without "RCA / PHONO Audio Breakout whilst still maintaining audio through SCART"

I’ve bought two these and very happy with each. This is actually the sync-on-luma cable Wolff is using in video.

I originally bought it for the “no buzz” feature (sound system was buzzing with Blue Lightening cranked using RGC scart) but happy to find out safe for my Jag with flawless picture.

Yeah the csync line needs 680 Ohms resistor and 220uF cap, which I mentioned in the other thread on that subject. But yeah, you can get amazing picture quality from the Jaguar with optimal timing in the OSSC. Here are some lossless screen caps I took while developing the OSSC timings:

Hmm, this is the cable I have; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251393709151

Open both ends and check to see if he put a resistor and cap on the csync line, if not, you should add it yourself if you're able to use a soldering station. If not, don't use it any more, inform the seller he needs to add series 680 Ohms resistor and series 220uF cap on the csync line for proper attenuation. If he tries to argue, then he's someone not to do business with again. This has been thoroughly 'vetted' information.

I emailed the seller and he said that the latest revision he was working on would have this fixed, so I have several unplayed Jag games sitting in a box until I can order another cable...

Apparently dorito_bandito no longer sells this cable.

Oh great...

*switches off Jag*

I'll be sending that sucker back today so it doesn't blow my shit sky high.

That leaves me with RF...

Well, that turned out to be quite an ordeal...

Sent my original csync cable back to RGC for them to make safe.

Got it back 2 weeks later and it worked great!... as long as it was plugged straight into my monitor. It was no longer detected by my Hydra SCART switch. :(

Which meant my Jag had to sit in the middle of the floor all sad and lonesome instead of on my shelves with the other consoles.

Told RGC about this and he suggested swapping the cable for the composite video as sync version.

So I got my 3rd cable, and it worked great!... until I tried it on the big TV via the OSSC; where an annoying buzz presented itself.

At this point I decided to give it up as a bad job and bled a load of money onto ebay for the official Jag Peritel cable (y'know the one: it's as thick as your leg) which works great!...

It actually does!

Picture and sound are perfect. And no buzz.

But of a shame about RGC in this case.

I have 6 other consoles on those shelves, all with RGC cables and they are all great.

Just a lack of testing on the Jag ones I think.

RGC decided to go with composite video and a sync stripper for the way they do 'csync' now. I do not understand why he went that route when all you need is 680 ohms and a 220uF cap on the actual csync line. I was able to get Retro-Access to switch to the 680 + 220uf combo, so at least there you can get a proper csync cable if you're inclined to give them a try.

Still looking for an available cable, but ran into this on Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/Hama-Scart-Video-Selector-Console/dp/B00006JAUZ/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1533834482&sr=8-15&keywords=scart+cable

Anyone try one of these? I ask because I have a Genesis with SCART as well as my Jaguar, and probably will eventually set up a couple more consoles this way.

I used to have one of those before I got my Hydra.

It's a great little thing. Very solid build and fully isolates all feeds.

I would have kept it, but I needed more inputs.
