canadianatari
So I have the 1988 Atari 2600 release of millipede: https://atariage.com/software_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=928 However, whenever I put it in my light sixer, it's so tight. It still fits but I have to push harder than I have to do with other games. On further inspection the cartridge is slightly thicker on the sides than my other games. Why is this? Will it damage my Atari?
Keatah
Increased wear where the surfaces rub. Maybe some contact stress because the cartridge is going to be pressing on them unless inserted perfectly or allowed to move up and down on its own like a loose cart.
BassGuitari
On further inspection the cartridge is slightly thicker on the sides than my other games. Why is this? Will it damage my Atari? It's a different shell produced by a completely different company. Atari Corp. reintroduced the old Atari Inc. back catalog in the mid-'80s, after the Crash, and typically used the same new fat cart shells for 2600 and 7800 games. They're not especially friendly to 6-switch systems, or even 4-switch ones, but they love 2600jr and 7800 consoles. They won't damage your older system, but the sides of the cartridge interface (and the cart) could scuff or scrape a little bit where they rub. Just be care inserting or removing the cart and you should be good.
canadianatari
Thanks for the info. Will take care when inserting then.
DCent
I just put those later carts in gently in my heavy sixer. Hold the system down while I gently but firmly take the cart out.

Red and later silver labeled carts are often candidates for thick walled cartridge shells Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
