LiqMat no longer has an account on AtariAge.  Did he decide to leave or did something bad happen?  I'm just curious.  If it was something bad, please just PM me privately since I am not looking re-open any debates.

Yep, he asked for his account to be deleted because of the negative reaction to that thread.

I feel like that's kind of an overreaction on his part but I do agree that if every thread with a "tasteless joke" in it was locked then there would be little to no discussion around here at all.

Hopefully he'll rejoin us before long.

I always say it as "Liquimat" in my head, but it's clearly spelled more like "Lick Matt". I fear I'll never know how it's actually pronounced :(

He made a "joke" that caused a minor shit storm.

I told him to stay a while beneath the surface, but he decided to leave the forum.

That's to bad. He is a nice guy with one single moment of bad taste.

He was commenting on a news story by example of a classic Intellivision game.

Was it so bad?

One of the good ones , will be missed.

No body is perfect and say or do things that are borderline to some and ok to others or just wrong. But
Just like a family here , we move on and continue living /sharing together here In AA.

Cheers

If THAT was enough to "cause a minor shitstorm" around here then a lot of people in the forum have serious hypocrisy issues. I'm not defending his "joke" but we have posts everyday that can be seen as being in poor taste so nitpicking which topics push the wrong buttons while letting others slide is the real example of poor taste.

We should either accept that we're all ok with a little dark humor now and then or we can loose more valued members of the community.

No it wasn't. I think a few members here need a heavy dose of "Lighten up Francis!" He was guilty of making an unfunny joke. Something that could have been left to die on the vine rather than involving mods and locking up a thread over it. But we live in an age where people value their need to be outraged over minor misteps more than community and discussion.

That is the problem not just here but in the western world.

It has become a nanny state and of political correctness.

I really don't know what happened exactly. When I "arrived on the scene" the posting was already closed and nothing much to see. I just looked up his pm that he wrote me shortly after this "incident". He wrote me that he leaves AA and where I can contact him. No reason why.

Yeah it sucks to lose one of our own over something so silly. If you communicate with him anytime soon, please tell him we'd love to have him back and that most of us had no issue with his post.

Hear, hear. I try to avoid delving into these personal threads, but here's my $0.02. I've seen many a post here that might cause many people today to freak out, demand someone's head, etc.

But I lived through the 70's.

In the Bronx.

Coarseness or bad taste might make me go "ewww", but it doesn't penetrate my skin farther than that.

Same here. I grew up in St. Louis City in the 90s.
