A Nintendo World Championship NES has been found in Seattle.

I have vague memories of hearing about an NES with an Ethernet port years ago, possibly even here on AA. Can anyone verify?

This blows my mind. If an NWC Cart sells for $15,000-20,000 and a gold cart sells for like $30,000 why would someone think a NWC system is only worth like $5,000 $7,000-$8000? Right now you only know of 2 systems. 26 gold carts were made. The controllers only being worth 2k is mind boggling to me.

 

I guess having that limited cart to go with your 700+ other games is more important than having the system and controllers.

 

My first guess on value, I was thinking people (not me) would pay more like $50,000 for something that rare. Why wouldn't you pay more for a system that only 2 have been found as compared to a cart where way more exist?

Quite simple , if Pat had the system then it would be worth 100,000 or more but since he does not own one it isn't worth that much

It blows my mind people are ready to pay that much for such items. I never understood the race about thos rare items, especially since they were one-off htings and not like, aborted production meant to be produced in large quantities...

I was going to speculate but iceman hit it. Why the hell would a system like that be valued so much less than the carts? How many of these have turned up? I know from poking around the occasional controller has popped up and they get decent cash, but nothing near th elevel of the games so maybe that's why. But what gets me is that there are so few that have still turned up and working (or not as a trophy) someone could add to a collection and you'd think it would be worth far more just because so few have arrived on the scene. It's just bizarre someone would think that.

 

Perhaps that snarky comment isn't off the mark. Because it's a so called nobody who has it and not some fake youtube geek celeb that's entrenched in gaming that has tens of thousands of suck-up followers it drops the price?

Did Pat say $5000? I don't remember that from when I watched, but I was only half paying attention.

 

I do agree with how it's hard to say what it's worth. It truly is a situation where "it's worth what someone's willing to pay." I mean, what do you base a value estimate on? There's not many (if any) of these that have sold, so you don't have a history. And although it is hardware, a controller is not really the same. I mean, it's definitely rare, but I've heard that same argument before on programs like Antiques Road Show. If it's never come up for auction before, it's difficult to place a value. It's really all just guessing.

 

It makes sense to me that it'd be worth more than the carts. It's got to be rarer and was part of the same competition and is actual hardware. But I'd have no idea how much...

 

I'm with CatPix, though. I wouldn't pay even the $5000. But I know it will bring much more at auction, if it gets to one.

I thought I heard 5K, but watching that part again he says 7-8K maybe 10K. Not sure where I got 5K from.

I agree with you guys that it is/should be worth more than the carts. OTOH, it looks just like a normal NES. As a hardcore collector piece it's still awesome, don't get me wrong. But on a shelf, unless displayed backwards, it is just a NES. For a mere braggart collector (they have those for Nintendo stuff right? ahem) the impact factor maybe isn't as much. Also, it is hard to impress people with stuff they've never heard of. Even my non vid friends know what an NWC cart is...lots of them saw it on Pawn Stars or whatever thanks to....Pat.

 

I imagine everyone everywhere will be checking the back of random NESs from now on.

Apparently the NWC cart is started by pressing play on the second controller. The port allowed them to start multiple systems at the same time by using one "second" controller.
