+slx
Want to give PAD a try with paddles, but how do I set those up in Altirra. I have confirmed the paddle is working through an original AA Stelladaptor (I get different values when printing PADDLE(1) in Atari800MacX). But how do I have to set input mappings to the paddle working in Altirra? Thanks!
carlsson
@slx: YMMV but I've got a full menu in Altirra called Input. It contains a choice for Input Mappings plus individual settings for Port 1, Port 2 etc as many as the emulated Atari model has to offer. Indeed I don't have a Stelladaptor installed, but I would assume it shows up in the mappings. My apologies if it doesn't, and I simply mentioned the obvious. +therealbountybob
Congratulations to trbb who is that guy? for pipping graywest by a few bricks and stopping McKong's winning streak, well sort of as McKong won one of the bonus challenges! And everyone, how many times do I have to beg you? "GET SOME PADDLES!" they're great fun, you can make all the little flicks and dashes across screen to do the impossible, there are about 80 games that use them PAD Great game NRV really enjoyed playing it I've played nearly every day sometimes 2 sessions a day! I really like the umbrella where at the start you try and get the ball into the handle.I did get the ball balanced on a long paddle on the right wall against a gold brick for over 100 hits to see if it would break but it didn't - I'd still think about making the gold bricks eventually break If you do a v1.85 please make the pause resume from paddle button, that cost me a life or two Thanks to XXL for Minotaur an interesting take on the maze idea, it made a good bonus game I didn't twig whether the mazes are the same each time or generated? final tables PAD v1.84 Extra as the main game and Casual and Arcade as bonuses! carlsson
McKong: On Altirra, you need to use original Atari ROMs, not Altirra's own OS ROMs (same as with White Circus / Circo Bianco earlier this year). On a real Atari 800XL, I think it should run without issue unless you have some custom ROMs installed that replace the original ones.
+therealbountybob
Yes the programmers idea for Minotaur is making use of some "Illegal" programming instructions - commands that are only on the Atari (or it's O/S ROM on the emulator). These commands work but are unsupported/undocumented/unnecessary etc - the top of the game has "XLOS exclusive" I think this is a reference to this

+therealbountybob
Yes stock XL and SIO2SD Post 49: "SS" It will not work for me on mt UNO Cart either. The UNO Cart is a bit picky with the ATRs that it will run though. xxl stated earlier that "the game contains a mass of illegal codes" so it doesn't surprise me that the UNO cannot handle it. It works fine on my 800XL via SIO2SD. Did you try the latest version on Post 45?
+therealbountybob
Just for Info: Atarionline.pl has a PAD thread that has the explanations of the power ups and scoring etc >>> The control is carried out using a paddle or mouse from Atari ST or Amiga. What you can find in the game:Power-ups:- E ( expand ): increases the width of the pad,- R ( reduce ): decreases the width of the paddle (it is more difficult, but for this the brick score is counted twice in this time),- C ( catch ): catching the ball, which begins to "stick" to the paddle (release it with a button or space),- S ( slow ): slows down the ball, acceleration occurs when you touch the top edge or every 20 seconds,- P ( extra player ): additional player - gives an additional ball (maximum one per level),- B ( break ): allows you to interrupt the game at a given level - side outputs are opened, through which you can go to one of two consecutive levels (another to the left, another to the right),- X ( mega ball ): a red ball destroying any type of brick,- D ( disrupt ): breaks one ball into three (no other power-ups appear during this break).Scoring:- 80 points for hitting a regular brick,- 50 points for each hit in a "hard" brick (ie requiring more than one hit),- 1000 points for caught power-up,- 5,000 point for completing the level without losing the ball (and destroying all the bricks),- 10,000 point for using one of the outputs after catching power-up B.Note 1: As we have already mentioned, catching R doubles the score for bricks.Note 2: we obtain additional life after obtaining 20,000 points. <<<
