i am currently on the never-ending quest to play galaga '88 on the go. so far, MAME4droid is useless on my device (android 4.0.4 on samsung galaxy s 2), and my choices are limited. so i am willing to use other options to play the arcade version of galaga '88 on the go. are there any options on how to do this?

(please help me. i'm desperate.)

Namco Museum on the Switch has the arcade version in there.. Or if you're ok with the TG16/PCE version, then that's playable on a hacked 3DS. I also seem to recall it being relatively playable on a hacked PSP (both arcade & TG16 version). Or, you could go the Rpi3 in a little cabinet format that people do. There are a number of options out there.

<edit> example pic added :)

What's the issue, controls or performance? Mame 0.37 is 18 years old now.

Edit:

And there's two Mame4droids, one based on mame 0.37 and another based on 0.139. The one the op is using is based on 0.37.

Performance can mean different things. The emulator can be innaccurate. The computer can be underpowered.

0.139. it's the only emulator that works. when i try to play galaga 88 on mame4all, it says that g88_prg6.rom is missing, but the file IS there. it's a glitch.

i'm looking for a way to force MAME4droid to play galaga '88 at 60 frames per second. (seriously, it's like i'm watching a slideshow.) is there an external app for that? also, the x68000 version is an exact emulation of the origional. is there an emulator for the x68000 on android?

Most people who are interested in such a thing build it themselves.. at the end of the day it's a simple Raspberry Pi, same as running on a tv/barcade except you stick it in a smaller display with smaller controls and try to make it fit. There's some dude here at AA who put it in one of the myarcade things for example.. <edit> this guy. Link1 Link 2

Else if you can find an Icade still.. that might work if you can get mame going on an old iPad. Not sure what else might be out there.. but I definitely recommend the Switch version. It's less than 70 bucks, :P but yeah you need a Switch.. but come on. :)

Edit.. see, Galaga 88 portable goodness! .. either widescreen handheld form, or vertical. :) If your question is legit.. this is probably "best" at the moment

I have galaga'88 working with mame4droid/mame4all (mame 0.37). It runs fine on my Galaxy S4.

Edit:

If you were to set mame to skip frames, than rather than running like a slow slide show, it will be choppy. You can go into settings and reduce audio quality or disable audio to see if it helps. Also disable button animations and scaling.

What are you using for a controller?

Im using the touchscreen. Is that bad for the framerate/slideshow?

Probably not. And it was "smooth scaling" that you can disable; scaling should be on. The options/settings tells you what might affect performance.

Do you have mame 0.37 working? That should give best performance.

I have a Dingoo A320 Handheld since around 8 years now and the PC-Engine version of "Galaga 88" runs great on it. There are some good PC-Engine emulators on it and you can also emulate Arcade games on it, cause there are ports of M.A.M.E. and Final Burn. But some of the newer and more complex Arcade games needs frameskipping to run in fullspeed on this handheld, but the most old game classics works great and without skipping frames. The handheld can also be overclocked to 450MHz AAANNDD the Dingoo is really reliable. I had mine on my side in alot of holidays, even on the beach and it still works like a charme. The D-Pad and Buttons are also good, which is also important in my opinion.

Also the Dingoo was cheap when it came out and when i bought it. I ordered from asia and it cost around 55,- Euro back in time and for this price, it is really great, cause you can do alot of things with it (gaming, listen radio, hear mp3 music, play videos, voice-recording, look pics and so on). But i looked in the internet today and nowadays the A320 modell is hard to find un-used and new. Later models of the Dingoo (A380 and so on) are available easier, but the price has raised alot. Now they nearly cost the double price from back in time. But if you interested in one, you can look on the internet. There was a good community for the Dingoos some years back and people even released a Linux version called Dingux for the handheld. Especially for this and also for the normal Dingoo operating-system (which can both run at the same time and the user can switch between) exists alot of good emulators for nearly every retro-system which was on the market.
