A place for marketing and commercials

Every time I see a new poster talking up a website or service they offer, I feel they're misusing the discussion forums. It would be nice to have a place for moderators to put them -- they can do their thing without feeling unwelcome, but not at the expense of discourse elsewhere.

 

Can we consider a sub forum for this kind of thing? Maybe call it "commercial solicitation and research" or something.

 

I'd also be in favor of an onboarding message that encourages people to participate in multiple discussions. I've observed a few people who seem a bit too into one thing (ataribox comes to mind) and they come off as shilling for someone's business.

and keep heavy advertisement out of the status updates too? z.z. I have a person on ignore, but I will still see thier status updates. Bleh.
