Atari Flashback Gold 8 and playing Starmaster

Hello! I held off buying one of these last year because my favorite game (Robot Tank!!!) was removed from both versions. However, I just came across a great deal on the Flashback 8 Gold, and I figured I'd go ahead and pick one up for the price.

 

I decided to look at some reviews first, and among other things I noticed it doesn't have a Black-and-White / Color button. How does Starmaster work without that? Has it been changed to use another button? Is it one that's duplicated on the joystick?

I think you can use the Difficulty Switches instead.

Guess I'm not going to find out, at least not soon. Amazon delivered it today and somehow thought that slapping a label on the box and handing it off to a shipper was in some way acceptable. Immediate return.

 

LPT: Don't buy these off Amazon, unless you want the box beat to hell and covered in shipping labels.

Hi,

 

they simply changed the assignment of the buttons. Difficulty is now beeing set with the new Select Button (on the P1 Controller) while you can call up Galactic chart with the difficult buttons on the console (instead of the BW/Color switch in the past)

I got an open-box one, I'm obviously less picky about some things than you -- that said, I think it's a nice little console and I'll bet you'll enjoy it too.

 

Having a REWIND button on an Atari-style joystick is really a trip and it would have been amusing/amazing to have one as a child.

I wouldn't mind at all if I bought a used or refurb unit. But given I bought it new and it's a 40th anniversary edition and the box is a neat display item, this just wasn't acceptable:
