OK, so talking to a source and reproducing the Activision embroidered patches seems VERY doable, I would consider this as a small side business, minimum profit for my time, and would be fun.

OR has Albert/AA ever considered?

HOW much interest is there for this?  We could ALSO come up with patches for other games, and set high score benchmarks

I feel *some* of the old Activision scores need to be raised as well:)

If done, we may need to start with say 4-5 games, and move from there

What do people think?  Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks

Lee

Whaaaaaat? That sounds very cool. Can you post some pics of the new patches when you get some? I would be down to order some definitely. I think making some for new homebrews would be sweet as well.

I'm pretty sure someone has been selling reproduction Activision patches on eBay for a while.  Really muddies the water, as depending on how well they are reproduced, it might be difficult to tell them from the originals.  Not sure what Activision would think, or if they'd even really care.

I like the idea of making patches for homebrew games.  It's been done a few times (Star Fire, L.E.M., and Space Cactus Canyon, for example).

I think this might piss off the value collectors, but personally, I'd buy a few. I just can't justify paying $200 for that Sea Quest patch that I've wanted for years.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a nice poster showing ever patch. Something small that I could frame.

I was thinking of marking them with a strong 'R' for reproduction

Thanks Albert

If I do this, I'd run a thread and require screenshot proof, I think it'd be fun

Instead of a patch, maybe a button? That way there's no confusion with original vs repro

Pac-Man Plus made patches for his Moon Cresta game. I'm very happy to have one. It was a very kind gift. It took me a while ( around a year) to get the first score mark to get the patch. I say first mark because Bob lowered the mark and finally rewarded all HSC players with the patch.

Almost forgot to mention Christmas Carol vs the Ghost of Christmas Presents Patch. It was rewarded in Carol Vs World Challenge. http://www.carolvsgh.../pg_prizes.html

I'd REALLY like to do this, just not sure the interest is there

Toilet - great idea, just feel strongly patches are the only way to go:)

SO if I were to do, I doubt the size would be %100 accurate, I have decent pics but would probably do better with hi res scans, anyone have the exact dimensions?

Then theres the issue of what to have made, my idea is to start with 5 to gauge interest, was thinking:

Seaquest (raise score requirement?)

Pitfall (raise score requirement?)

HERO

Frostbite (raise score requirement?)

River Raid (raise score requirement?)

OR maybe sub Kaboom

DO you guys think theres enough interest?  Would patches of different size be not okay?  Thoughts?

Great idea, just make them slightly different to stop scammers. I don't think they need to be duplicates. I actually like Albert's idea of doing them for homebrews/non activision titles even more. It would be a fun new thing to collect, that you'd need to PLAY a game to get. Love it.

As to interest, yes... depending on the price.

A different size is a good idea, to tell them apart (old vs new). I think there would be enough interest if the price is right and once word gets around the forums. I'd do smaller batches, maybe 25 of each to start.

Hmmm, now I am torn, Activision is tempting, but would be so fun to have people trying for newer homebrew patches, BUT that brings up getting permission from programmers, using the superb art recently (thinking Draconian, Star Castle, Super Cobra, Scramble), patch design, etc.............fun idea...............any more thoughts?  Worried that there isnt enough interest for either, i'd need to at least break even, thinking around 8-10$ per patch?

Also thinking Space Rocks, LadyBug, maybe Thrust+.  Programmer/authors may prefer to do themselves?

id buy a repro one without hesitation- even if you just mark it with an R or something (i think was mentioned), itd still be cool as heck to own and i wouldnt be paying 200 bucks for the real deal.

I would buy a set no problem and sew them onto a old timey tan leather bomber jacket and show them off the proper way!

I would also go for new ones for other non Activision games too including homebrews too!

Count me in on either a reproduction or homebrew patch. I like the idea!

Thanks for feedback everybody!  More positive feedback more likely I will do this

Okay, IF I do thinking doing 3 Activision and 2 Homebrew, to gauge interest, 20 patches for each title

Looks like interest in straight out purchase, but tempted to do it based on score achievement?  Yes or no?

Activision - My vote is Seaquest, Frostbite, HERO

Homebrews - Super Cobra and Draconian, maybe Star Castle?

Then if the first batch is popular and goes well, I'd do another?

Thoughts?

I think if we are fans of the game, we should be able to buy them whether or not we can hit a certain score threshold.

If you do a score requirement, then they should be free as a reward (with proof).

I like the idea of Non-Activision and Homebrew patches.  Especially No-Acto.  That way, there is no confusion.  Plenty of legendary Non-Acto games that have a viable difficulty level and relevant playablitiy to suit.

Eg. Turmoil, Pole Position, Millipede, Defender/Stargate, Ms.Pac, Wizard Of War, Gravitar, Mouse Trap, Dragonfire, Q*bert .. and so on.

Obviously game selection is important.  Eg Gravitar is a perfect choice based on its difficulty and parameters imo, however this has also caused it to be loved and hated for the same reasons.  However, imo, games like Pole Position, Millipede, Defender/Stargate, Q*bert are iconic and probably a more solid choice.  Still nice to throw in some gr8 players that maybe not everyone knew about bitd.  The AA Top 100 / Atarimania Top 100 and 2600 HSC would be your best mates.  :)

But what do I know??  :P

Good luck.

How about a unique color on the border, just to indicate they're "2018 series" (reproduction)?

I would not be in favor of going higher than the thresholds in the original manuals. I'm lame enough as it is, I don't need to be reminded of that.

Pins are neat, but I like STICKERS even more. Cheaper all around, too.

I would like to see a patch big enough to cover the back of a jacket, depicting all of the individual achievements, providing you are a full patch set winner.

I knew about Star Fire and Space Cactus Canyon, but how did one get a patch for L.E.M?

They were offered on release I believe in very limited numbers, maybe 10 or so?
