Opal Rotary Controller [DISCONTINUED]

Sorry for the late review, but I *love* my Opal Rotary Controller! Thank you so much for making this. I didn't realize what a treat I was in for to finally play Tempest 2000 with it!

So, uhh, serious question: seeing as how you've really made me upset that there is no PS4 rotary controller to play Tempest 4000 with, what are the chances you'll make one for the PS4? Do we even know if Jeff Minter put in code for a rotary controller in Tempest 4000?

I'm glad you are enjoying it :)

I have no idea about the PS4, sorry.

Way too new for my tastes. ;)

PS4 is a beauty! New versions of several PSX classics (from 1994) as well as killer VR helmet. Bring on Tempest 4000, Crash Bandicoot, Wipeout, etc.

As well as droves and droves of unimaginative shovelware and cookie-cutter FPS warsims. :)

Keep it. Lol

I can easily name 4-5 titles on the PS4 which are more imaginative and diverse than both the Jaguar and NeoGeo libraries (minus aftermarket releases) ever were. Not even counting a dozen NeoGeo ports incl.Fast Striker for ~5$. ;-)

I don't know what PS4 games look like. The only one I've ever played is "You must update the system software"....

Hehe, yes that's very annoying. I don't care about those FPS warsims too, kiddos are totally crazy about "Fortnite" and I don't even know what that game is about :-) Recent games I played on it were "Last Resort" , "Hotline Miami 2", "Risk of Rain" and "Nuclear Throne" - all more classic pixel stuff, but all just BRILLIANT.

Is their an adapter for the Vectrex? You never know. This controller makes me want to buy a Jaguar.

I have no idea. Are there even any rotary style games on vectrex?

I've always been intrigued by the Vectrex, but I left it too long.

They're ruinously expensive now for a good example.

I’d say the Jaguar and the Vectrex are about even in the expense department.

There are a couple spinner cartridges made by Binary Star software that have converted many games to spinner controls.

I dunno, man. A mint, boxed Vectrex will cost the wrong side of £500

Maybe an adapter could be made then.

I have a rotary controller already that I bought on ebay a few years ago (dpad replacement like the opal). It works perfectly with T2K but with Impulse X if I remember correctly I have to set the sensitivity to '8'. A setting of '4' makes the paddle move too slowly. Also in kobyashi maru the rotation of the ship is far too slow to be able to play. I think the rotary encoder in my controller must have a different resolution which would make movement in T2K on the opal twice the speed!

I hope you will have the opal in stock for a while as I would like one of them but may not be able to purchase one until after christmas.

Yeah I keep making them, so stock shouldn't be a problem :)

If you're buying it to play rather than to collect the units themselves are cheaper and there are at least two different multicarts with all the original games and even newly made overlays and a guy selling the 3D imager. Two years ago I paid a little over 250 EUR for a Vectrex with bag and six loose games. You'd have to look for some time to get a similar deal for a Jaguar. Given it's quite a unique machine with its vector display, that's not too bad. I'd rather have a Vectrex than some rare variant of another console that doesn't play differently.
