Arcade 1up "Mini" Arcade cabinets

Anyone have any info about these? There are some reviews out that are decent, but I get the feeling none of them have actually played the games. Basically they are miniature arcade machines, but not the usual table top, but rather 4 foot cabinets. I know a good while back Target was selling some smaller multi-cades for around the same price and they were pretty much crap based on the reviews. I would snag one of these if the were decently built and played nicely. A bonus would be if you could load your own ROMS somehow.

I was looking up stuff too from what I gathered. You can not load roms on it, but in sure someone will figure out how. You have to put the cabinet together kind of like a peice of boxed furniture. Seems the controls for each cabinet is set up for the selection of games that come with it. I.E. the centipede one is with a trac ball. The Atari vector graphics one has a spinner for tempest and the button lay out for asteroids. Also seems more are in the works for later

I like the fact that they have, for the most part, proper control panels with track balls and spinners for the games that use them. On the other hand, I hate the fact that if you're taller than 4'2", you're going to be uncomfortable playing these.

I read that you can buy some sort of generic bases that will raise the cabinets to arcade height, also I imagine you could maybe also just fashion some sort of platform yourself. I agree they would be too "short" as is.

I know I'm planning on getting atleast one. With working for Walmart, the stores are supposed to start carrying them. Which I figured they would be strickly an online item only. I can't wait since I have my associate discount and layaway in full swing again. Although, I also found out that a 6th cab will release a couple weeks later. A Pacman cab with Pacman and Pacman Plus. I'm not sure if there are any other games on it though. I do know its exclusive to Walmart.

I’ve been out of the loop and only recently found out about these. They had two display models in Walmart (though one had the the panel enclosed in a plastic case and some asshole ripped off the stick on the other). The looked sturdy enough and with a base (bought or made) would probably help the height issue. Anyone have any thoughts on the overall quality? My fiancé’s daughter LOVES Galaga and we were thinking about getting the 1up cabinet.

My local walmart has a Galaga version of this. It is beat to hell up. The control panel is completely rubbed off. The joystick ball is gone. The case is falling apart. It wabbles. It's pretty much unplayable and a terrible show piece. It feels a cheaply made and poorly build piece of Ikea furniture..

Get it.. you'll love it. Obviously they're not built for public use (e.g. any Walmart display) but for home they work great. Just make sure you get the control panel protector.
