masschamber Posted August 4, 2018 Share Posted August 4, 2018 The odyssey 2's library is actually really good for it's size, in fact I found more games to be good than bad and like a quarter of the library is really good. Plus almost everything is exclusive to the odyssey. The voice is really fun to mess with and the board games series is really clever. Turtles is like a perfect match for the very specific features of it's hardware (I bet super pac man would port well too) My friend's kids and I decided out of the 49 games, about 40 were okay or better 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Flojomojo Posted August 5, 2018 Share Posted August 5, 2018 The middle stretch of "sports" games is pretty dire (Hockey/Soccer comes to mind as particularly yuck) but the graphics are big and bright, there's no flicker, and the controls are responsive. The Challenger Series games are untouchable (in a good way). I'd be amused if you could list the 9 games that didn't pass muster. IMHO it's one of the O2's more entertaining multiplayer games (nothing can top Showdown in 2100 AD for two player fun . With Monkeyshines you can play cooperatively for high score or competitively (try to kill each other and/or get high score). It may also be the only Odyssey game that lets three players play simultaneously. With a third person on the keyboard they can try to help or hurt the players by adding or removing lines from the screen. Monkeyshines also gets bonus points for originality in both theme and game play (I'm not aware of any other game were you try to shoot each other with tagged monkeys . 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As the manual says, "Explosive pinball action! Complete with thumper bumpers digital scoring and something new - shifting flippers that cover more playfield area!" The bowlingball, I mean pinball, physics are so realistic you may forget you are looking at a television set. There is no greater homage to to the classic American game. And of course it has true hyper realistic "sync sound" action... No other pinball game, not even a real pinball table, syncs your sounds quite like Thunderball! Your pinball classics collections on your modern systems will seem like relics after you play Thunderball!, but you might not be able to stop playing... doug0909 Posted August 6, 2018 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I was being sarcastic I love the Odyssey 2 for its great games, but the stinkers were really sinkers, and that was one of them. And the over the top Odyssey 2 hype, even for the stinkers, was hilarious. If you haven't played them, Attack of the Timelord is one of the greatest shooters of the 8-bit era and Pick Axe Pete is a really fun platformer... They are usually listed with Turtles, Killer Bees, and Smithereens as the best games on the system. And while Asteroids ripoff UFO is a bit mindless and luck dependent, it's kind of addictive too. If you somehow get a chance to play them, Kill the Attacking Aliens is one of the most unique and greatest homebrews ever IMHO, and Mr. Roboto is a great simplified version of Archon (more fun than Archon IMHO). I think the ROMs for both are still freely availabile. And while the O2 version of Demon Attack is clearly inferior to the 2600 masterpiece, Atlantis is arguably better (smart bombs!). Qbert is smooth and fun, as is Frogger (although broken into two screens due to the low res graphics). Popeye is an ugly but playable interpretation of the arcade game. Super Cobra is also more of an interpretation than a port (screen to screen, not scrolling) but it plays really well, and is better than the 2600 game. Back in day however, it was a good tool for making videos if you didn't have a computer. It basically allowed you to make title screens for your home movies (if you were lucking enough to have a camcorder back then). Or if you just wanted to use your TV as a sign.
