I'm hoping Stuart ports his TI web browser to use TIPI. I've wanted to create one myself but haven't had the time to take that on, and I need to learn more assembly first. I have been doing a fair amount of C for the '99 but keep hitting walls.

What kind of walls are you hitting?

Maybe we need some extra library code that someone could write in Assembly to get you moving?

<< Stuart's Internet Browser >> is great, it made a huge splash on other web sites when it was released, << LIKE THIS ONE >>. He was really a trail blazer in this area.

Sadly, I think the limiting factor at the time was the << UDS-10 >> configuration itself. While it worked like nothing else did, it required a time investment than some could not give.

Now with way more TIPI's out there than UDS-10's, it's a no-brainer. One configuration would fit all, no matter if you had a side-car TIPI or a P-Box TIPI. No more messing with, plugs, cables and pinout configurations. Anyone who has a TIPI... HAS EVEYTHING SET ALREADY, all they would need to do is run the new program, no fuss, no muss.

I can only speculate on why he hasn't... he might not have a TIPI, he might not be interested in it any longer, he might have been dissapointed on the final adoption numbers, or he might simply be busy who knows? I can dream though, and in my dream he would be 'working on it'.

I love the look and the concept, but wouldn't the entire presentation layer need to be programmed on the client-side using whatever GUI platform is available?

I've kind of given up on the GUI idea ever coming to fruition. It seems like it's way too much work for far too few to enjoy. When you consider the world-wide number of active TI users, pull out those who use it for more than games, than pull out those who have the requsite hardware and finally pull out the non-purists and non specialists from those, how many people are left?

Sounds like it would need porting to the TI. Would it make more sense to use that energy towards porting Contiki?

http://www.contiki-os.org/index.html

Unless Contiki has changed since I looked at it many years ago, the main problem is apps. It's not terribly useful to have a fancy GUI that doesn't do very much - and each Contiki app needs to be separately ported to the target platform. Further to that, Contiki can't load native apps (ie: you can boot Contiki, but it can't launch a cartridge or run an EA#5 program). I guess you could write Contiki apps that did those things, of course...

I'm hoping to do a TIPI version of the browser. I'm waiting for some decent documentation and example code on how to interface with the TIPI device in assembler ... not sure if Matt has got any further in producing anything yet.

Hope is alive then! That's good to know Stuart, especially directly from the man himself.

It probably too soon to ask, but I'm wondering, have you considered integrating the TIPI/RPi mouse driver into the program?
