The sound quality reminds me more about Space Taxi than Impossible Mission though (both referring to their C64 versions). At first I thought it was a modern crap game backdated to 1983 but it seems to be the real deal. It's dead easy to get play sampled speech through a sound chip back then, just squeeze the "compressed data" through it real quick. The only limitation was the amount of memory to store the samples.
