matthew954
I got curious this evening about my Jaguar. Being as I spent a fair share of cash on it. After opening it up, and looking around the board, I found the chip at U38 bubbled and the pins blackened. After doing a search here at AA, apparently U38 is known for failures. What does it do, and how can it be repaired? Or should I contact the seller on eBay and have it returned?
Krip316
It’s the voltage regulator. It’s a touchy little guy. If you can solder, you can get it from Console5. If you can’t, return it.

matthew954
How hard is it to solder in?
+madman
You mean it's been working OK with that burnt regulator?
matthew954
According to the eBay seller it was. Though I bet it did till they "tested" it. I'm willing to bet they used any power cord lying around to test it. I got curious today and took it apart since I'm waiting on a replacement power adapter to arrive. You said Friday the power supply was getting warm without the system turned on. On Friday what happened when you turned the system on? matthew954
It didn't power up at all. Would it be possible the faulty power adapter did the damage? Edited August 21, 2018 by matthew954
+madman
How do you know your power adapter is faulty? You asked if it was normal for the power adapter to get warm, I posted a thread to you in which multiple people confirmed, yes it is normal. What tests did you perform to show the adapter is faulty? matthew954
Well, I know they get warm to the touch. But this was hot to the touch. No power cord I've ever owned has gotten too hot to hold before.
+madman
I assume you had a game in the Jag when trying to power up, correct?
Zerosquare
What your photo shows is exactly what happens when you plug a power supply with the wrong polarity. When that happens, the Jaguar will no longer power on (and the smell is a pretty good sign something is very wrong). So the seller is lying to you, and is most likely aware that he sold you a fried Jaguar. I'd return it.
matthew954
Yes, I had received my copy of Cybermorph from here at the AA Store. I inserted it into the system, and pushed the power button.
+madman
OK, then yeah I'd agree w/Zero, you didn't do anything that'd blow out that regulator like that. Not sure I'd mention you took it apart, though.
matthew954
Yeah, I've just messaged the eBay seller about returning it. We'll see what they say. I have to say, I'm disappointed. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid.
