Rare label variation

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I'd call it a rare, but it's definitely an uncommon. It shows up infrequently on ebay. In fact there's one up right now in a larger lot: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3029183924

Although from the pic it looks kind of beat up. :P

So I guess you completed your transaction with the seller who was trying to overcharge you to ship to Canada?

Was this just a double then, or did you not want it?

Alas, hard times have hit.....Not really, but I just purchased a Mesa Boogie Mark iv amp that I need to pay off, and I am going to sell a large chunk of my 150 8 bit carts to pay for some of it. Video Game Addict, I'll probably post what is for sale on this site in the next week if you are interested, although, for convenience sake (I hate listing piles of auctions), I may just sell it as a lot with a fair buy it now price, like I do with most of my Ebay auctions.

My Ebay id is jlnsctt@aol.com if you are interested.(the same as my old atariage id that also has a couple hundred more posts).

I just listed the DK cart to test the waters right now. To see if the market is high or low right now, as 8 bit carts fluctuate in prices greatly at different times, as you would know! :D

As for it's rarity, I see it pop up less than Mario Bros, but more than Crystal Castles. By our own Callipygous' rating scale, I would GUESS that it is probably somewhere between a 5-7 out of ten for rarity. I'm sure we could debate that for days, but then we would be like the silly 2600 guys!! :D

Callipygous!! If you're out there, tell us what you think, as you have one of the most complete collections around, but you have no label variation rating for this one on your site!!!

Good guess. I would say its a 6.5 :D . Okay, make it a seven, since I have Crystal Castles as an 8. Only some label variations interest me, so I did not do rarity ratings on them, but DK is one I had to have for a complete XE set. The dollar value is even tougher to say. How many 8-bit collectors care about the label vars? Certainly less than those anal retentive 2600 collectors :lolblue:

It looks to be doing quite well, it's over $10 now. :) I'm not sure I'd give it a 7 thou, maybe a solid 6. :P I personally feel it's an R5, as I've seen it in larger lots from time to time. Probably one every 4 or 5 weeks at least. Although I am trying not to collect LVAR, and cart casing variations, so I still don't own one.

The only LVAR I currently own are Dig Dug, because of the different sprites, and K-Razy Shoot-Out, because of the different manufacturers.

I think LVAR are alot harder to evaluate in general. As many of times, the auctions are short, and may slip by unnoticed, or listed without pictures, or with pictures, but not close up enough to know what version is posted. And then the fact that the regular version is so common, that most everybody has it already so they don't particularly go out looking for it, so alot of times, unless it's in a smaller lot, or listed individually and noted like this current auction, it's probably not even recognized. But I would agree it's about a hundred times rarer than the regular version. ;)

But when comparing the XE DK to the other R7's I just don't know how well it stacks up. How often does Pastfinder come up for auction? I've only seen the one auction that Satcom2 posted around 6 months ago, and that's the only time I've ever noticed it over the past year or so of 8-bit searches. I believe he was auctioning off a bootleg Satan's Hollow in the same auction, in case anyone remembers.

Up N Down (there were two of these posted at the same time in December, one by Satcom2, whom originally got it from me, the other from Rob Catron, which I bought) since then I haven't seen this one auctioned off either.

Frogger II, I've seen twice maybe in the past 3 or 4 months, both times in lots, the last one was recent, I did have it on my watch list, but forgot to snipe. This may only be a 6.5 ;)

Carnival Massacre, another R7, it's up right now, the last one which went for nearly $400 two months ago, and was the first one in a long time to hit ebay.

Romox carts, typically are rarely seen on ebay. I just bought the lot of three, but there's another on right now, and there were two others, both in larger lots, over the past few months. So that makes maybe two Ant Eaters, and two Princess & Frog's maybe that have come up over the past 4 months or so.

I just don't see this dk cart at those levels of scarcity.

Devils Advocate, you wouldn't happen to have BBSB! would you? I'd give you $100 for it right now. :D Bring on the auctions! Hey and what's this Fubar? Never heard of it, but love Spinal Tap. Is it along the same lines? I see you listed it under comedies, when did it come out?

Since I am not doing label var ratings, feel free to make XE DK an R5 :) . Keep in mind, Julian probably bought this in a lot and is now selling seperately. Thus the auction count of this title includes the same carts being resold. A few resales like that and instead of six carts in 6 mos, there were really might only be 3 on the market.

Carnival Massacre - Its is not a eBay rarity list. There are other sources!

Last time I checked both Krieg and Ianoid had one for trade. I sure they will sell for $400 :D
