memelord
I am looking to make a metal gear fan game in ruby. (which is object oriented. That means it's impossible to learn) and i would like some help. What do i do first? How do i display sprites? Is programming in ruby only useful for typing in hello world and nothing else? I dont need an hour long tutorial on how to press a single button. Just tell me what to type and when to type it.

Osgeld
http://www.ruby2d.com Frankly if you couldnt be bothered to google "game in ruby" you are going to have a steep learning curve no matter the language

memelord
What about qbasic? Its basically the same as batch (the best language for stupid people to learn) but it can display sprites. I think. Does anyone know how to make an enemy "line of sight" and basic stealth mechanics in batch/qbasic?

EDIT: See I told you it's all Starfleet aprroved and everything! Edited August 23, 2018 by Shawn
Osgeld
what you want to do is going to transcend language, so pick one learn up on it, do some simple stuff, get basics down and learn some more, cause at a level 1 notch above syntax and functions its going to be the exact same thing no matter what

Gamemoose
Since this is the "modern" forum, why not use something like Gamemaker, Clickteam Fusion and such? I've used the latter (though no expert) but it's pretty straight forward. (Note that indie action game "Freedom Planet" was supposedly made with Clickteam Fusion. Also "Five Nights at Freddy's" was made using CTF along with 3D Max for the graphics.)
+Gemintronic
It sounds like you need easy to use tools with scripting and many tutorials. This means either Unity or Game Maker Studio. Forget the words "Ruby", "QBasic" and "Batch".

Mord
stupid people. that's a generalization and an insult to most programmers, even novices like myself. a better choice of words perhaps? To be insulted by that, imo, you'd have to not think of yourself as a programmer in the first place. Personally I just saw it as him being a snobby programmer looking down at the plebs not writing in machine code like a REAL man.
