+sixersfan105
Came across this just now. Since this game was never released, it has to be a homemade cartridge label, right? Of course the listing makes no reference to that. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F273434063820
BassGuitari
It can only be a repro of the prototype, unless there's something I don't know. He has a Commando cart, too, which of course was also unreleased.I did just grab his Choplifter cart, though. I considered the possibility it might be bogus, too, but he's also got a Blue Max up there. And fakes are usually much cleaner than this is. Worst case, I get burned for 30 bucks. Worth the gamble IMO, though. Edited August 30, 2018 by BassGuitari
+sixersfan105
Nice! Ugh, I should have looked at his other items, as I see where he had a Karateka that sold for only $19.99 earlier today. That's one of the few XE games I still need...
jaybird3rd
It's a reproduction. Video61 also sells Xenophobe XE repros, but their labels look different and they tend to use the louvered XE cartridge shells, so I don't think this is one of theirs. Makes you wonder how many of his other listings are repros, too. Like possibly the Karateka, since that's pretty rare. The ones with the boxes I would think are real. BassGuitari
I missed a $20 copy of Karateka?!?!?!
+sixersfan105
Haha yup...and now the same seller has a Gauntlet "prototype" listed for $500...but it's a repro. So there's that hahaha...
+sixersfan105
Damn...looks like I missed a Mario Bros box + cart, too. I only need the box, but still. Those never pop up.
BassGuitari
Damn...looks like I missed a Mario Bros box + cart, too. I only need the box, but still. Those never pop up. I was happy just to get my loose copy of Mario Bros. I called it a day after that. Past the 10 or 12-odd "common" titles, collecting CIB XEGS games is a fool's errand. +sixersfan105
Yeah I hear ya...I think I'm down to only needing Karateka (cart/manual/box), Mario Bros (manual/box), Airball (manual), Crime Busters (manual), Crystal Castles (manual), Flight Simulator II (manual - I currently have the floppy manual), Rescue on Fractalus (manual - I currently have the floppy manual) and Summer Games (manual).
BassGuitari
Slightly OT, I didn't realize the XE version of Choplifter is a unique port. Well, sort of; it's essentially just the old 400/800 Broderbund version with new graphics superimposed over it. But I was under the assumption it was just a straight reprint (with an Atari Corp. copyright added on the title screen) a la Donkey Kong or Blue Max.And as it happens, I don't even have the Broderbund version for my 400/800 yet (either cartridge or disk). Double score! (It still won't be as good as the Atari 5200 version since any version of Choplifter really requires two buttons IMO, but still.) +sixersfan105
Yeah I had read it was unique-ish. I'm a fan of 7800 Choplifter, too (uses two buttons). The SMS version is quite good, too...
tjlazer
Crystal Castles XE is also an updated port
