sudoboy
Hi to all! My first post here. I got a couple of Atari 2600 that i'd like to modify so i can connect to my composite CRT tv. There are numerous tutorials online and i was just wondering what's the best method to do it from your experience? I know it's a simple circuit but i still want your inputs on this. Thanks in advance!
+Spriggy
Welcome to AA Sudo. Nothing sinistar, but the lack of response from the locals would pertain to the plethora of information previously discussed about your said question, over numerous threads. So spam that top-right search box with your digits! Enjoy

bradhig1
Been looking to get an AV modded 2600 from ebay cause I don't have a drill to put holes in the case for the connectors.
sudoboy
I'm planning on using just a single 4 channel 3.mm headphone jack for AV for a single hole drill.
MMarcoux66
I've done 3 with the guides at http://www.coolretroprojects.com/Atari_2600_AV_Mod_Installation_Guide.pdf Drilling the holes was no big deal and I even learned how to solder . Bought the kits from ebay and everything was included. Costed about $10. Edited September 1, 2018 by MMarcoux66
Keatah
I wonder how many people cut and destroy the RF modulator in this process?

sudoboy
I wonder how many people cut and destroy the RF modulator in this process? I'm assuming it's necessary to remove it just as when you av mod a Famicom. It's also mentioned in the PDF that mmarcoux66 linked to. MMarcoux66
Do you have a link for the kit you bought? So how was it? Sure. This one. Went really well and fairly simple. Yes, you have to remove the RF but for my purposes it was ok. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-7800-Composite-RCA-A-V-Audio-Video-Mod-Upgrade-Kit-FULLY-ASSEMBLED/311634197062?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D53209%26meid%3Dff3e6a22134042da820a8484d5a11732%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D311653998049%26itm%3D311634197062&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Edited September 1, 2018 by MMarcoux66

It looks way better than my current RF connection. Haha..
MMarcoux66
Wow that looks pretty clear! It looks way better than my current RF connection. Haha.. Yes, my TCL Roku TV looked awful on RF. That was the reason I did the first Jr. It was blurry and snowy. The colors were all over the place.

I'm sure. I would just remove it in a less destructive way. That's all..
sudoboy
Has anyone tried doing the av mod without removing the RF functionality?
Keatah
Don't know about putting two loads in there, the mod and the rf box. But, it could be made switchable and that would work.

I just cut the Vcc to the modulator to kill it but not remove it. Nothing a quick dob of solder can't fix if it needs to be put back into service.
Osgeld
yes I have done it, its fine if you kill the power, if you switch the signal you still get better than RF on the composite output ... but its got a noticeable amount of noise
