+videofx
PC disks are generally jumpered to act as DSK2. . .just select 2 as your drive with it connected and it should see it. Didn't work. I tried DSK 1, 2 and

+videofx
OK I got me a working DS/DD drive and works perfect with the CorComp controller. I formatted SS/SD and DS/DD! Now I also have 2 of the TI SS/SD drives. So I have 3 drives total. Where can I find an encloseure to put the drive in to make it drive # 2 external? Also the shunt, when you make drive 2 does the HL also stay on like drive 1? Does it matter if the DS/DD is drive 1 or 2?

If you want to run xb software autoload off DSK1. I'd make that your most common format, dsdd can read/write ss and sd just fine Greg

Now when you look at the shunt, its labeled H/HL , the shunt in my TI drive has it enabled. Does it stay enabled on all drive I add or only drive #1? I'm a believer in if it works don't fix it.. so if it works.. leave it if it's a termination it should be on the last drive on each cable.. so theres an internal cable and external cable.. +videofx
I have a dumb question. When you format a disk, ie. DS/DD is there a utility or a way with DM 2 to not have it scan after it initializes? It takes forever to format a disk.
+mizapf
You should use another Disk manager tool, e.g. MDM (from Myarc). They allow you to define the interleave and are much faster during verify, unlike DM2. Edited October 4, 2018 by mizapf

+videofx
Dm2k is the easiest.. Thanks. DM2K can format S/D/H density disks. Can my Corcomp format an external HD floppy? or am I relegated to 720K only?
+arcadeshopper
Thanks. DM2K can format S/D/H density disks. Can my Corcomp format an external HD floppy? or am I relegated to 720K only? no controller can do HD other than the HFDC. Even then it really doesn't work right on a 4/a the Geneve only can really use the full 1.44mb.. you can format it 40 tracks on a cc controller, single or double density.. dm2k can select between single/double and 1/2 side.. and can do 80 tracks if your controller supports it, yours does not.. you can format a 1.44 disk as DSSD80 track with a TI controller with 80 track mod or more on a myarc 80 track mod controller. +Ksarul
The update on a TI controller requires that you replace the card's DSR (the firmware). The DSR chips are soldered in, so it is best to carefully remove them and put sockets in for the replacements. Note that the update allows you to use 80 tracks per side of the disk, but that the format is still single-density, so you get a 360K, 80-track disk. The CorComp will only format 40 tracks per side (and there isn't an updated DSR for it that allows 80 tracks), so you get a 360K, 40-track disk. One note, if you put a CorComp controller in a Geneve9640, it will work fine in 80-track per side mode. . .but only in a Geneve, as the Geneve Master DSR lets all of the disk controllers work in 80-track mode. Omega-TI
I'm still wondering who will be the first with a TIPI to remover the drives from their P-Box entirely. Then I wonder what will be placed in the opening. A P-Box is still necessary for people who want to run more than 32K and have features not available to sidecar users (so far). The floppy controller solution you are looking for comes at a premium price on hard to obtain items, like the Myarc HFDC for example. It would be much more cost effective (IMHO) to get the TIPI/RPi combo, slap a microSD card in it and have more storage capacity than you could ever hope to use. LOL Omega you are 100% correct! but for now until I can get a TIPI I was looking at my options. I figured since I have a 720K disk why not use it? but for now it looks like using the CC controller I will get 360K and no reason to upgrade my TI controller since I will still only get 360K
RickyDean
There are other alternatives, or up and coming alternatives. There was the Corcomp DSDD controller, still to be had from time to time on ebay and other places, same with the Myarc Floppy Disk Controller, and the controller Ohm mentioned. There was some foreign options too, some of with made it to the states. Ksarul, one of the members here does a lot of electronic wizardry and has created/recreated some amazing stuff for the TI and he is working on a Myarc FDC clone, which should be available in the future. Any of the DSDD controllers can give you the ability to use 720k drives, with the right disk manager software, I believe, and I have used them in the past. I hear ya, no reason to update the TI-FDC unless something in the CC card conflicts with the startup routine of other devices you may be using. +arcadeshopper
yeah basically there are controllers out there that can do ds/dd 80 track but you will either never find it for sale or it will be 250$+ to buy one. Corcomp can't do 80 tracks.. so best you will get is 360k. which is also he best you can get with a ti controller with 80 tracks.. There's talk of building a new run of myarc controllers.. but so far it's just talk due to real life and junk Greg
