Shawn
So $150 for the PSIO and then and extra $400 for a broken "audiophile" PS1 that won't play CD's? Am I missing something here? If I am my apologizes because otherwise this listing leaves me very confused.

Just last week I sold a audiophile ps1 on ebay, went for 31$ free shipping and it played CD's, so I think the op is being optimistic
hardcorehubz
$150 for the PSIO yes, but I had to wait over a year for mine to finally arrive. They're going for $300-$400 for the PSIO alone on Ebay currently, and the install isn't easy. If nobody buys it that's fine, I'll keep it. youxia
The ridiculousness of PSIOs valuation aside, what is an "audiophile" PS anyway?

Andromeda Stardust
i cant imagine its much better than a late 90s discman. just take the optical output from a cd deck and run it to a high end reciever. its like selling high end braided oxygen free, pure silver hookup cables with gold plated terminals for 1000 bux per foot. um, i'll just stick to buying bulk spools of 14awg "lamp cord" copper hookup wire from lowes. extensive research has been done prooving there is no discernable difference between "snake oil" cables and bulk copper wire of comparable guage at audible frequencies. in some cases the bulk copper wire had lower impedence and actually performed better.
hardcorehubz
Lowered it to $450.

Well, if you have a good CD player, you don't necessarily need a receiver with a good DAC in it; you don't need a receiver with any DAC in it. That said, I've read about these PlayStations and while most people say they sound pretty good, they're not supposedly any better than a reasonable quality CD player. Probably better than a Discman, though. (One guy I read said it sounded better than his entry-level NAD player, but not as good as a couple other boutique players I hadn't heard of. But even sounding better than an entry-level NAD is pretty good for a game console.)
