The CAR Demo - available for download

Unfortunately I don't live near cool people who do demoscene parties so I wanted to challenge myself to a 24-hour coding run (but that was broken up across several days because that's how real life works). And so I've been considering multiple different side or mini-games to embed within a much larger Cyberpunk-themed adventure game I've been working on *fingers crossed the time and tools to make it a reality becomes a reality* while learning more throughout the process of what I can and cannot do on the Jag.

ABOUT THE DEMO:

Since exploring what you actually 'can' do is part of the fun, I'll just note that every single button does something with quite a few being condition-specific.

With that said, changing the car skin or color is only for preview, it's not a bug that it doesn't stay that way. I just didn't make it that way for various reasons but it being just a demo is the primary one.

If the cyberpunk game materializes, you can expect to see something like this in the game that's more than just a demo and is actually something you can drive.

While I highly recommended you to run it on real hardware via your favorite Skunkboard or flash device of liking, it will also run fine on Virtual Jaguar as well. Running it on a real CRT is the bees knees.

DOWNLOAD IT HERE:

While it's not much, it's 4MB of pure 64-bit candy with a little bit of fluff+space filler. I hope you enjoy toying around with it as much as I enjoyed making it.

To everyone who has helped by making the tools and knowledge available which has allowed me to create this goofy demo for the Jaguar, thank you!

I have that same tv. Back in the day nothing could touch it in picture quality

Something I wondered was about the alignment with the Jaguar. For some reason random games on the Jag will have a border and alignment issues on the left or the picture will be pushed up and I can't see high scores. But with other systems it's fine. So I imagine it must be the Jag and not the TV. Some games even have an alignment adjustment setting on them too.

There is no 'screen buffer' that is always displayed. The system can display graphics on whatever lines it wants to. Each game can be differently adjusted.

Good to know. I like that some Jag games have an adjustment option for that to correct it. Other games I have to just deal with it. I was playing Jag Worm and you can adjust it, Impulse X, but can't on JagZombies.

Been tinkering with the car for a bit, love the visuals, the headlights and lighting changes look great. Not sure how I'm getting it to do certain things, but I've gotten the camera angle to change towards the hood of the car. With those radio stations and changing the paint job black, I'm thinking Death Proof, which is awesome.. also.. I'm not sure where that sample is from, but is that radio station named Clam Slam? It's all I can hear Lol .. This is giving me some sorta modern true crime / horror vibe, which is interesting, 'cause it made me realize there's hardly anything like that in gaming.. maybe Manhunt? Awesome demo!
