Possible to adapt Eladdin Joysticks for Jaguar Use?

I've been playing some SHMUPS for Jag recently (Raiden, Xenon II) and was thinking how nice it would be to have a big fat arcade joystick on my lap for playing these. How hard would it be to adapt the Eladdin joysticks that are on the AA store for the 7800 for use with the Jag? Would a cable do it? There really aren't many action buttons on a lot of these games and I feel like it's doable in regards to button function/needs.

Or is there a better solution for a Jag arcade pad? I've only seen highly custom one-off's in the past...

It shouldn't be hard to build the necessary circuit on a little bit of perf board or maybe even direct wired inside a db9 hood.

Edit: This is assuming the 7800 controller uses a 1:1 mapping for each button to a pin. With only 6 on a db9 I imagine this is the case. Also in the time I spent typing this I could've looked this info up.

One possibility is this:

https://www.jagware.org/index.php?/topic/1208-atari-st-joystickjoypad-to-jaguar-adapter/

It's intended for 2600 joysticks, so there's only one action button, but it should work with 7800 joysticks.

The other possibility is to modify the joystick to make it directly compatible with the Jaguar, either by reusing the PCB from a Jaguar pad, or by building the same circuit on a piece of perfboard like madman says.

Hacking a Jagpad to make a dedicated arcade stick isn't too hard. If you can solder (even at an amateur level like me) it's relatively straightforward. Hacking a prebuilt one like this ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AU-Pandora-Box-6s-1388-in-1-Retro-Video-Games-Double-Stick-Arcade-Console-Light/223140527663?hash=item33f4363e2f:g:IHwAAOSw8W1bl4Sq:rk:2:pf:0) wouldn't be too bad an idea, especially if you can navigate the wire spaghetti in order to keep its originally designed functionality as a bonus.

I am surprised there has not been more interest in an arcade/fighting joystick for the jaguar. Look how many different Atari 9 pin D type compatible joysticks were made back in the 80s and 90s. What with the recent interest in a mouse adapter. It would be great if someone could come up with a design that you could plug in a standard 9 pin joystick (or a mouse) and have a pass through so you could plug in a jagpad as well. I do understand that the wiring is different with a jagpad compared to an old style Atari joystick. Hasn't there been an arcade stick made for the Jaguar already? Anyone got any photos or information?

It would be great to have an Edladdin Universal Atari Stick with both 9-pin and Jag outputs selectable via a switch. Best dual to allow for Robotron like games. Hardest choice would be how to build the keypad, telephone style or compatible with overlays. (Over the top would be LCD keycaps selectable for specific games....;-))
